I know this is a normally a thing for the end of the season but it was touched upon on another thread a few days ago and with 3 games left and us virtually certain of a lower midtable finish it seems like a fair time to look at it. I think its more a less as follows:
Under contract for next season-
Ryan Cresswell Reda Johnson Cav Miley Sam Wood Paul McCallum
Out of contract in the summer-
Graham Stack Ross Flitney Mark Childs Andrew Boyce Ayo Obileye Harvey Read Michael Green Gavin Hoyte Sam Togwell Danny Hollands Mark Yeates James Constable (out on loan) Ben Williamson Chris Zebroski
Loan Players from other clubs- Ryan Broom Sam Matthews
Of course its possible some of those under contract for next season won't be here and some of the out of contract players will presumably be offered a contract

I dare say most people have yes/No opinions on the above list with the exception of Mark Childs. I really Hope he gets a game before the end of the season to show all how is playing.
One comment on Reda though. He looks more than the part when he plays but that is nowhere often enough and he is an expensive luxury

Assuming we are targeting top 7 next season, here are my personal choices.
Ryan Cresswell - Pleased - good leader and top defender
Reda Johnson - Pleased from a non-financial view.
Cav Miley - Very Pleased
Sam Wood - Pleased - Versatile and could be very useful
Paul McCallum - Pleased. Has the potential to be top quality at this level if we play the correct system.
Out of contract in the summer-
Graham Stack - No, unless there are no better alternatives.
Ross Flitney - No (unless he stays as coach, although I still think it's odd having a coach whos younger and less experienced than the first choice keeper)
Mark Childs - Yes, but I bet you we don't
Andrew Boyce - No - Liability
Ayo Obileye - Unsure - Depends on who we sign
Harvey Read - No - Too inexperienced, won't be ready for a number of years so no point him hanging about.
Michael Green - There are better options, but commitment and role models to the club is what we need, so Yes.
Gavin Hoyte - No
Sam Togwell - Dependant on the experience of any summer replacements, but overall, No . I feel harsh, but if we want to be the best team, we simply need the best players. Danny Hollands - Same as above
Mark Yeates - Yes, although I bet he will get better offers from elsewhere
James Constable (out on loan) No
Ben Williamson - Yes - Gives us a different option to Zeb and McCallum
Chris Zebroski - Yes - Works hard, - Same as McCallum, if played in the correct system could play a vital role
Loan Players from other clubs-
Ryan Broom - Yes, but I doubt it will happen.
Sam Matthews - Yes, but near on impossible

You sure about all those being out of contract in the summer, tenacres? I read an article a few weeks ago by Graham Stack who said he was contracted with us for next season. Also, did Hollands & Yeates only join on a one year contract? Plus, the other MA signings, Hoyte & Togwell, do you think they only joined for 18mths? You also assume (unless you have confirmation) that Cresswell signed a 3 year contract when he joined. Maybe he did?
Time will tell, I suppose, but if anyone knows for sure how long players are contracted with us, it would be good to know.

I agree with you, Martin, about Graham Stack. At least that's what I was told by someone closely linked to the club admin a couple of months ago.

Thinking about it, actually, SD explained how Ryan Clarke needed to be released when we was because Stack's contract was 3 years long so therefore not keeping/using him was not a financially wise option. If you don't mind me asking, where did you source that data?

Although I believe the situation regarding GS's contract to be true, I do not get the impression that RH thought this was the principal reason why RC left the club.

Although I believe the situation regarding GS's contract to be true, I do not get the impression that RH thought this was the principal reason why RC left the club. From what SD said, i got the impression that RC was very unhappy about not being the guaranteed number 1 and SD wasn't willing to terminate Stack's considerably longer contract. I might have misunderstood.

If I was the decision maker:- Under contract for next season-
Ryan Cresswell - Keep Reda Johnson - Go Cav Miley - Keep Sam Wood - Keep Paul McCallum - Keep
Out of contract in the summer-
Graham Stack - Go Ross Flitney - Go Mark Childs - Keep Andrew Boyce - Go Ayo Obileye - Keep Harvey Read - Keep Michael Green - Keep Gavin Hoyte - Go Sam Togwell - Go Danny Hollands - Go Mark Yeates - Keep James Constable (out on loan) - Go Ben Williamson - Keep Chris Zebroski - Keep
Loan Players from other clubs- I'd keep both but can't see either wanting to stay at our level Ryan Broom Sam Matthews

The comings and goings this summer will be interesting because as I understand it, there will be a financial cap on wages and contracts set ups are going to be different. The worry has to be if this is so, will it mean we lose out on players we really want if other clubs offer better deals? On the one hand I can understand EFC going the route they are thinking about regarding contracts and wages, but can they convince players to come on those terms?
I guess we can argue that Macclesfield have shown it can be done on a low budget. That they are the champions elect is down to the impressive football their manager has implemented as their style of play. Get pace in the team, get width, train to pass and move on the floor all over the pitch, don't keep booting it up field from defence. The theory that if you kick it up field 12 times in a game you should win possession 25% of the time gives the chance of maybe 3 attacks and possibly a goal/free kick/corner comes from it makes it worthwhile is bunkum. If you keep the ball and build with pass and move you ought to be able to have 12 attacks unless you're tackled, fouled or the ball goes astray in a pass. That's been the key to Macclesfield's success, keeping ball and playing football with it.
RH and AH will have to sell the club to the players we take an interest in signing and they'll do it very well, RH loves the club anyway, and AH admits he is impressed by the club set up and plans for the future, he wants to take the club into the football league and I believe he will.
