Unbelievable, given that he's been on gardening leave for months (is he fit enough to take on such a stressful task?), and given the number of changes at the club this season.
Most posters on the Barnet forum had the 'never again' attitude when he last left, now there seems to be a guarded welcome. Things must be desperate there. Some seem to think he might actually keep them up, a lot seem to think that even if they go down he'll be the man to lead them to NL glory next season.
The question is, how many of his old players is he going to invite back? And how many of his signings have we still got?

I don't believe it. He's more than welcome to take Hoyte back with him. What's the bet he signs either Muggleton or Cole again with the continued strong belief they have bagged of potential. 😂😂

Certainly in the "you couldn't make it up" category even if it was first reported by the Daily Mail.
I liked this reaction from the Bees forum -
"Have just read the news, no its not April Foooooolsss day yet. New manager is not Martin Allen, its Flanagan and Allen*. This means lots of vaudeville merriment and many laughs. Just what we need to cheer us all up after a long depressing season."
* for those below pension age, F&A were a British singing and comedy double act popular during World War II. Best known for "Underneath the Arches". Half of them, Bud Flanagan, sang the "Dads Army" theme.

Ha ha ha!!! Funny old game, football. Have to say they must be desperate, but looking at their L2 situation, I guess they are. But will he still be with them when we play them next season?

Cheers, an interesting read indeed. Shades of our own "4 manager season last season" I think, although we were never fighting relegation (appreciate that some disagree with that).
Barnet have a heck of a job to stay up & if they can manage that then MA will have done very well, although Newport did it last season from a similar position - funny enough I think Westley was the departing manager before there late season change then as well.
Obviously the MA appointment didn't work for us but its interesting that some managers just some to "fit" at one club as Martin Allen seems to at Barnet. Assuming they do go down this season they will surely be challenging at the business end of the national league next season.
Westley is another, 3 spells at Stevenage so far and the hot seat is vacant at the moment so may be about to go back for a 4th!

The MA appointment looks great if you are a Chesterfield, Grimsby, Forest Green or Crewe supporter. And if, as looks likely, Barnet do go down, I think they will struggle in the National League next season. Their Owner's story seems to be a saga of cliches with clutching at straws and knee jerk reactions featuring prominently. Needs to look at himself perhaps.

I think that if a manager gets a club promoted out of a division and then consolidates their status at the level above. and when that person leaves and results deteriorate and have a lot of managers in a short space of time, then asking the original manager to return is certainly an option that many people would consider. People might consider some differences in the two situations, but I think there is a case to say that Eastleigh did that with Richard Hill.
As for a manager having five spells at one club does John Still's two spells at Leytonstone and Ilford and three spells at Dagenham and Redbridge count as the former club effectively became part of the latter?

So..... Martin Allen and Barnet go into the last game needing to beat relegated Chesterfield and hoping that Morecambe will lose at Coventry, who need a point for the playoffs.
Barnet have won 3 and drawn 1 of their last four games.
Will he do it again? I think he's got a chance. Although a draw at the Ricoh would be enough for both teams, so don't rule out a 0-0 there.

Yup, I'd noticed the Barnet could well be of the verge of the great escape too.
Course if Morecombe do have a 0-0 bore draw then Barnet could win by 7 and still stay up. Long shot and I suspect the game might arouse one or 2 suspicions in that event!

0-0 at the Ricoh, as predicted.
Barnet only win 3-0 so are relegated. MA runs out of luck.

13 points from 5 games for a team who probably had taken about 5 months to get their previous 13 points!
Think he may have his eye on another job in the football league but if not would be hard to back against Barnet challenging next season in the national.
I think it might be one of those frustrating situations where a manager does well everywhere else, but not with us :0(

And Barnet will have a fully fit Dave Tarpey next season as well.......he wanted league football and only had a few minutes of it, I feel for him in that respect, a life long dream of his. He's a goal machine and was already on fire in August for Maidenhead prior to his transfer to Barnet, he looks a banker for 25+ and will be favourite with Rowe (Fylde) for the golden boot.
