John, I have been a massive critic of Hoyte, but to be fair I think he's been a decent defender since Christmas (like Ayo, he seems to have cut out the occasional lapse in concentration that used to cost us) but I don't rate him at all going forward. The quality of his crossing is much worse than, say, Wood. He's also still capable of meltdown and is always capable of picking up a card.
I've not seen that much of Broom but when I have he's added a bit of impetus, so I agree he's worth a longer run in the side.
Talking of ponderous, that is still the big problem. Did you notice on Saturday that when we were trying to build up from the back, whenever the ball went to Wood, he always took that extra touch, that meant that he was closed down before he could give Yeates (or whomever) the ball. Yeates was getting very frustrated by this, as we all were.
I think Stack is a good sweeper/keeper and if we can decide on our defensive formation and stick to it then with his experience he is indeed an important player. Granted, his sweeper activity means that occasionally he comes out too far, but that's the risk you take. Hope he doesn't get tempted back to Barnet :-)
