Finally thrawed out from yesterday’s match, my points are 1. Wood is it not a left back 2. Ayo is not a midfielder 3. Why leave our best player Matthews on the bench and take off Miley our best player in the pitch at the time.
Saw RH talking to AH must is said your team is as boring as mine was.

I did say after about 20 mins (couldn't be sure without the scoreboard) "this game has all the hallmarks of a 0-0 draw". And I repeated it a few times. I wasn't wrong.

Agreed, Woods isn’t a defender, his crossing is good but he always looks like he’s not fit enough, no engine. It’s embarrassing watching him and yaetes bitching at each other. Thought zen was good again Looked like AH priority is to tighten up the defensive game, shame because when he took over he played the youngsters and it was so refreshing after all that we’ve endured beforehand!

If we can manage 12 (or more) points from the last 9 games then we will have beaten last years total.
I think its 50-50

I would suggest, based on Saturday's performance, the BEST we can hope for is 6 0-0 draws from the 9 remaining games, which would be enough to keep us up. What has happened to the purple patch of slightly entertainin football we enjoyed in January?

I missed Saturday, though it sounds like I didn't miss much.
6 weeks ago we were just a few minutes away from a 5th win in a row and looked like we would get close to a play off spot (or even actually get one).
Now we look a long shot for a top half finish. That's the joy of football, things can change so quickly.

I think the three centre-backs makes us more solid, but as I say, without decent wing-backs we have less attacking threat.
The three midfielders are therefore outnumbered and with the front two looking lightweight when they're not scoring goals (both run around a lot, when Zeb came on as sub he helped, because he's good in the air) then we look a lot less like scoring.
Personally I think Matthews and Miley are both good players (the former is further along in his development, I feel) but I don't think that they can play together, again they look a bit lightweight, especially in a midfield three. Togwell is needed to add the shape and the physical presence - he does his best but IMO we've had better in that position in the past e.g. Taylor. Also one of the central defenders also needs to push forward a bit to give Togwell a bit of help. Reda did that a bit on Saturday, Ayo could do it as well when Reda's not fit. That side of things needs to be developed for this new system to work.

I understand your points Paul but I would want Matthews and Miley both in the side at the moment. We need their quality and tenacity because we have too many other players not firing on all cylinders at the moment for whatever reason. If the system doesn't accommodate them I would change the system because it didn't look on Saturday that the team really understands the system anyway. At times we had half a pitch of space between a front five and a back five.

John, maybe they'd do better in a 3-5-2, but do we have the defenders for it? Boyce in the middle, Ayo and Reda either side (if Reda is at total fitness - he wasn't on Saturday)? Maybe even Hoyte (he's better defending) if/when Reda isn't fit.
Wood, in a more advanced role (he's better attacking), and Yeates could be the wide players for now.
Not a lot different to the last two games, just a little more forward-looking.
Togwell would need to be at his most mobile in that formation to protect the two youngsters - IMO a challenge.
And Zeb instead of McCallum partnering Williamson at the moment.
Either way, totally agree the players have to learn and be comfortable with the system they're playing. That's been the problem for the whole season. Is that down to the coaching or the type of player we have?

not the best game, but a positive to be taken from a second clean sheet in a row as well as getting a point. A point may be greated rather more favourably should be manage it on Saturday.

That's been the problem for the whole season. Is that down to the coaching or the type of player we have? Having missed a few games before this one I'm less well placed to be certain about the way forward but I think you've captured some of the more glaring problems there Paul. We should certainly be getting more out of the players we have. There are cameos for example when Gavin Hoyte shows excellent technical skills on the ball. His first touch is good and he will always look to play the ball on the ground. We don't seem to have found a way though to get him to have the kind of impact on a match that he should be capable of. I would like to see Ryan Broom in the side. Like Miley and Matthews he is quick thinking and capable of the faster paced kind of football needed to take the game away from the likes of Leyton Orient. We were so ponderous at times on Saturday that I wondered if I was watching walking football. On a plus note it's good that Graham Stack seems to have no current fitness problems. He might turn out to be our key man in some of our upcoming fixtures and his experience can help a lot.
