I assume you will be running while wearing the outfit? Its going to be very hot inside it my friend. In 1988 (I think that was the year) I ran in a bed race with a group of friends, one of whom is Kev Holley, a fellow Eastleigh fan and I think Ant Gallon was another in our team. We were dressed in outfits from a children's television show, I cannot recall the name, but I was Zippy. There was 5 runners in each team and we had to push a bed as well on a Sunday Morning. We started at the top of Oakmount Road by the bend at a retirement home for the elderly, we were running to raise money to purchase those necklace things that trigger an alarm if an elderly person fell down and they break the necklace for the alarm to go off. Anyway, down Oakmount, along Leigh Road, the first stop was the Leigh Hotel Pub, one team member had to go in and drink half a lager or beer, then we raced on down Leigh Road, another team member then had to do into The Good Companions and drink a half. From there we went down Nutbeem Road and along up to The Chamberlayne Arms, another team member goes in and drinks a half, we get into Southampton Road and go to The Home Tavern, which in now The Wagon Works, another half, then round to Eastleigh Workings Mens Club for the final half drink, along Romsey Road and up the hill to the finishing line at The Irish Club. We won the race in something like 38 minutes and I spent a lot of it on the bed being pushed by the other lads coz I couldn't keep up with them!!!! Such a race would not be allowed today, and the drinking idea was plain stupid, nearly everybody could not keep their drink down because of the running immediately after. I don't think me and Kev Holley could run 100 yards these days!!! So Brooksy, the best of luck, I think most of us in outfits lost at least half a stone that day. We only won the race by about 6 feet from the 2nd team home, and 3rd was about 15 yards adrift. GO BROOKSY GO.

What’s that got to do with running a 10k for an hour at 10am?

The road race disrupts the way into Eastleigh for anybody on the Nightingale Estate, Velmore, and Chandlers Ford, and the main bus service through the town, the No.2 does not run from 9am until 11-48am. The last time I got into Eastleigh on race day was to go to the bottom of Stoneham Lane, into Mansbridge and back through Allington Lane, and back along Bishopstoke Road. There is no reason why the whole race can't be run round The Boyatt Wood Estate and prevent all those disruptions.
But to the point you make, what has the race to do with being on Father's Day.....it will impact on local businesses, particularly those wanting to eat out at The Wagon Works, The Station and a number of eating places besides the Swan Centre, and that will have a knock on effect for shops in the area too.
As I said, they thought it out very well didn't they. Bloody selfish without checking thoroughly.
