Yes that sums it up hantslondoner and I am guilty of getting sucked into the nonsense. Back to the thread subject and I would say it's good to see that although we all seem to be realistic in our expectations, as Malcy pointed out we should never rule out the seemingly unachievable. We can make 7th until it becomes mathematically impossible.

Thanks Hants, no I’m not trying to get banned and don’t expect to. If my safe cosy opinions don’t resonate with everyone I’m awfully sorry (not)

I set myself a rule on forums. Only say to folk what you're prepared to say to their face. Anything else is sh!thouse behaviour.

don't think he would make that comment to anyones face. typical attention seeking behaviour, best to ignore and move on
can't see us making 7th, be nice to get a bit of a run going into next season though. next season will be our year!!!!! how many times have we said that before?
good to see people being realistic, i remember when i sued to read these boards most people seemed to thing we were going to win the league every season

With so many years on the planet I was surprised to realise that I did not know the origin of the above mentioned moniker. Seems it's an acronym, viz:- Used by prison staff to explain the segregation of inmates, who were convicted of sex crimes towards children, from other inmates
Not On Normal Communal Excercise NONCE Prisoner W23899 is a nonce.Just wondering whether there's any potential for dreaming up what willk could be an acronym for. Sorry, willk, only joking. Hope I spelled everything correctly. None that could be reproduced here ;-)

Well, I'd happily say to someone's face that they are badly deluded if they think this squad is good enough to go on a consistent run and average 2 points a game for the next 4-5 months.

Win next two games and you never know. Couple of teams above us on bad runs of form and our strike force on fire at moment just feel we need two players in specially in defence.

If we can get a win next week then I think we are almost assured NL football next season.
However we have got some tough fixtures in the last 3 months of the season so getting anywhere near 70 points is going to be beyond us.
Could have some fun trying though!

Just keep the unbeaten run going and the rest takes care of itself. Certainly no-one in the National league is going to look forward to playing Eastleigh on a 7 game unbeaten run.

I put a bet on them at 28/1 for them to make the play offs so it won't happen now.

skybet have us at 22/1 to make the top 7 which seems quite a big price. I'd have thought more like about 14/1. (they have us at 250/1 to go up if you want to be super optimistic!)
It still is most definitely a long shot. AH has targetted 70 points which requires 30 points from the last 16. OK that is a tall order, 70 points got 8th last season, Barrow came 7th with 75 points.
So yes it is possible, but we would need to win a lot more games to make it!
Something like 10-3-3 from the last 16 to give us a reasonable chance IMO

Stats to finish 7th over the last few seasons:
16/17 7 Barrow 46 20 15 11 72 53 +19 75 15/16 7 Eastleigh 46 21 12 13 64 53 +11 75 14/15 7 Woking 46 21 13 12 77 52 +25 76 13/14 7 Kidderminster 46 20 12 14 66 59 +7 72 12/13 7 Luton Town 46 18 13 15 70 62 +8 67 11/12 7 Southport 46 21 13 12 72 69 +3 76 10/11 7 Darlington 46 18 17 11 61 42 +19 71
09/10 7 Crawley Town 44 19 9 16 50 57 −7 66*
08/09 7 Oxford United 46 24 10 12 72 51 +21 77
07/08 7 Histon 46 10 7 6 42 36 10 5 8 34 31 +9 72
*2 games less as Chester were kicked out.
So the exact average for a 7th place finish over the last 10 seasons has been 73pts.
So need to pick up 33 points from 16 games (as of this weekend) 11 wins, 5 defeats. 10 wins, 3 draws, 3 defeats. 9 wins, 6 draws, 1 defeat.
Will be quite an end to season if we can pull something like that off! And even then, that's just to get INTO the play-offs (but you'd fancy us with that kind of form!)

11 wins, 5 defeats seems the only plausible option to me, as the defence leaks goals & cocks things up far too often for my liking. Fortunately we seem to get goals which makes it good to watch at the moment.
But we won't make it into the play offs anyway.
