With the form we are currently showing I think we can do better than finishing 7th (from bottom)

It's possible, but I don't think so with some of the current team. Need to sort out the defence as a priority, then we have a chance. Far too many soft goals conceded this season. Everyone knows it's a problem. Plus, if we're "going for it", i.e.promotion which is why there are play-offs, we need more cover for injuries in midfield & up front. Otherwise comfortable mid table is the best we can hope for, IMHO.

Ridicously pointless question. Just how long is your piece of string?

Don't be so bloody daft, no we are not good enough.
There are 18 games left and we would need a minimum of 70 points maybe more, so we would have to win at least 12 of those 18.
We are very much still fighting to get away from the relegation fight and will struggle to win 6 of the last 18, whuch should give us enough poonts to come back next season.

Does anyone think we could make it? Yeah if the teams above us all went into liquidation.

Don't know about anyone, but my answer to this is a big fat NO.

opinion on here seems to be unanimous lol
i think it is a massive ask and we would need to get 2 points a game like hessenthaler said he was aiming for, maybe going for the top half is a bit more of a reasonable goal, but then if we can get on a good run you never know!!!!

Highly unlikely unless the side is strengthened and SD has made it clear that our free-spending days are over for now. I would hope that 10th place is realistic but there's already a 5-point gap between Ebbsfleet in 10th and Bromley in 9th place.

I've had a word with the Club and they have agreed to provide a large supply of straws in the retail outlets for the Hartlepool game (paper ones obviously, none of the single use plastic rubbish), feel free to go and clutch at them before, during or after the game.
Seriously 😂😂😂

At the start of the season I thought we would finish 7th-9th. I am by nature an optimist. I reckon we will come 14th now, and if we do, and if we can keep the 7 or 8 people who make us tick, if we can avoid any more upheaval, if we can bring in at least 2 players with real pace, and if we get a couple of reliable fit central defenders, then maybe, just maybe, we can have a stab at top 7 next season. Maybe...

We probably wouldn't get 7th with the current squad even if Andy Hessenthaller is a managerial genius and the best coach in the league. Any chance of achieving that would likely depend on whether the club are prepared to write off the big wages they are having to pay to contracted players who are rarely fit. If they are, they could go out now and spend new money to recruit the midfield and defensive players and the goalkeeper that are needed to be able to field a team with any chance of the play offs. I would guess though that the people holding the purse strings will rely on AH to keep us in the division with the playing staff he already has plus just a possible couple of signings, including replacing the departing Howe. They might hope they can then say cheerio at the end of the season to the older players who came here on ridiculously protracted and expensive contacts and who will hopefully be out of contract then. That then theoretically frees up some money for a summer recruitment campaign. It would be interesting to see whether the manager and DOF currently have an influence on those kind of strategy decisions and, if so, which way they would recommend the club to go.

Football is a funny game in which fortunes can rapidly change so I still think anything can happen.
Five years ago we were in a relegation position and no-one expected to us reach the play-offs, but we did.
Two years later we did not look like getting into the playoffs, but averaging 2 points per game in our last 19 games we did.
At this time last year we were in the top half of the table and did not look like going down, but for a time this looked a realistic possibility.
I expect we may need to average 2 points in our remaining games and this may be a tall order, but do we need to finish in the top 7 of those who play on grass.
