Thanks - None of their players seemed to have a problem with it. Even their manager was protesting less than usual. I thought the pitch was very good considering the weather we've had. Their manager must protest a hell of a lot then, if that was less than usual today . . . . . I thought he was gonna lay an egg & give birth to kittens at the same time at one point, he spent more time remonstrating with the 4th official than he did watching the game.

Their manager was theatrical to say the least. He never stayed in his technical area for much of the game which the 4th official should have clamped down on. Yes the game was entertaining and going forward there was much more threat and movement from the team. But as others have said defensively it is shambolic and to allow an average side with 10 men to wrestle a 1v2 lead was very poor. I read in the programme about the latest plans for ground improvements which all sounds impressive but what's on the pitch needs major surgery otherwise what's the point? I don't necessarily see a relegation fight now but I can't get excited about the nucleus of this side. It's never going to grow in to anything like a promotion side. Roll on the end of the season and a massive clear out yet again.

Come on guys, give it some time please? Give the new gaffer a chance it won’t happen overnight but at least we’re getting entertainment! Mathews and Miley both starting in midfield is great and the two big lads up front have “suddenly “ shown some form. I like to see Yeates crack on more, with confidence, Woods behind him in 2nd half didn’t seem to know his role tho, bit of dumby spitting there st times. Agreed that their gaffer behaved like a Impetulant child tho!

I'm prepared to give AH time but as he said post match, given the age and experience of our players they need to responsibility for their defending which has been shocking this season - we seem to need to score at least 3 to even be in with a chance of winning at home.

Defending for the first goal was disappointing, 3 defenders round one player and still didn't win it, but disappointing by the keeper again, seemed to go through his legs? Think it's a position we need to address, constant injuries to both of them which could be the reason for some lacklustre performances. Could probably do with some consistency in that area. Hollands has been disappointing this season expected more but on the flip side I think MIleys been my player of the season and didn't expect anything from him. And take back everything I've said about zeb, last 4 games or so he's been awesome.

The main question we all like to know the answer to is WHY CAN'T WE BEAT 10 MEN?

Yesterday they went down to ten men, we got the goal and all seemed set fair. We didn't get the second, and seemed to run out of steam, not for the first time - I thought Hollands played quite well for an hour, but was completely knackered after that - should have gone off earlier. Miley and Matthews are good prospects, but again it was shown that they can't do it all themselves, they need a midfielder to win the ball and keep the overall shape, which Hollands did for an hour, but someone like Togwell and Taylor have done for us too. We need that sort of player in there.
The first goal seemed to be a lack of concentration and communication down our right, not for the first time, Hoyte seemed to be out of position relative to the men in the centre (I think Hess was getting at this kind of thing in his after-match interview). Wood on the other side went missing a couple of times again too, but we didn't get punished for that. The penalty just looked like a shattered Hollands unable to get out of the way. You could see how upset he was about it, this is not an ex-pro drawing his money and taking the p*** - at least he's on the pitch, trying his best.
This isn't the first time this season this has happened - Gateshead and Chester home games are two other examples. Torquay I thought already had our measure, and their sending off just meant that they had less outlets from defence. Let's see if the new man can sort this out better then RH did. As I said on another thread, if our holding midfield players aren't fit, we need to get another one. Heslop did quite well for us in his loan spell, took the pressure off Hollands a bit. And two new full-backs, unless Greener can get completely fit and back to his old form.

I agree we probably do need a more experience midfielder in with miley and Matthews but it's not usually a position you want to have to make a change if he is knackered etc. I get he impression the full backs don't like playing with yeates. Reasonable as he is going forward I think he leaves the fullbacks exposed defensively. Having said that I do feel like we have made general improvements in the last few games so it's something to look forward to.

"Ref was terrible again at times , let play flow quite well at others." - (per hantslondoner). I saw good refereeing yesterday, but that was from Lee Probert at The Vitality Stadium. Unfortunately we have had a succession of unprofessional incompetents officiating at Eastleigh's previous league fixtures v Bromley, D&R and Torquay and it seems from hantslondoner's comments that the trend was continued yesterday. That also seems to be born out by Tony Smith's excellent pics on his match photo thread. The standard of refereeing is way below what is needed in a professional league. It does need to be addressed. It's not enough to say that everyone always blames the referee.

Actually in the last two games we have done marginally better against 10 men than against 11.
Inhe Torquay game we were 1-0 down at the time of the dismissal and drew level 8 minutes later and looked the team more likely to win the game after the equalizer.
Against Woking it was 0-0 at the time of the dismissal and soon afterwards we took the lead. However it was disappointing to concede the two goals the way we did and then we had to rely on a late leveller.
