I reckon ebbsfleet may well rest some players as they probably fancy a play off spot. Will be tough but winnible. Drew there 2-2 earlier in the season

I really think we have to go for it, to give ourselves some self belief, we wont get any other memorable games this season, as a play off spot has gone by now, so a trip to Wembley would put us back on the map get other clubs talking and generate interest in us on the south coast, as it did with the Bolton games. I know loads of people who would go to Wembley to see us and not just from round here either. Come on SD and RH you know you want to !

Not interested. The last local side to do very well in the Trophy was Gosport Borough. Not a good act to follow - with all due respect to Gosport as I think they are a great club andI hope that better days will come soon. The only thing that matters right now for Eastleigh is the National League and finishing as high as possible so that players will want to come to the club for the next campaign. At best the Trophy is an opportunity to give reserve players a run out and if they win and impress - it gives them the chance to compete for first team squad places.

Have to disagree with you there , John. Can't see it happening this season, but what EFC fan wouldn't want to see their club at Wembly? Using reserves? Most games we're fielding the only fit players we have! Oh, & you didn't mention York City!

At higher levels, Wigan and Norwich also come to mind Martin as sides doing well in cup competitions but falling down into a lower league. I think it's the experiences of those clubs as well as of Gosport and York which might influence my lack of interest (which I prefer to think of as pragmatic rather than negative) in the Trophy. Especially while, as you point out, we are so short of quality playing resources, it does seem it might be best to keep those eggs in one basket. I certainly wouldn't want Sam Matthews, Paul McCallum or Danny Hollands, just for example, getting crocked in a Trophy match and then being unavailable for the next National League game.

the saviour of our season, a welcome distraction from our battle at the bottom. A cup run to keep us interested and dream of a Wembley visit...
Ebbsfleet 2-0 Eastleigh

RH told me he wants to win the trophy, and would field his strongest team at Ebbsfleet; so that's 4-1 to Ebbsfleet then!

Think the trophy comes alive in the later rounds, but to get there you have got to win the earlier rounds first. Was good to read hilly talking in the paper about taking the game seriously
