Not another old player. When will RH learn. I really do question RH ability to spot and know what a good young player looks like.
Heslop last 3 clubs;
Last club York = relegated. 2nd half of last season at Wrexham = last year didn't have a good season 1st half of last season at Torquay = nearly relegated.

Or alternatively.........last season won a cup final at Wembley pretty sure that any player would want that on their CV and plenty don't have it...
Your history seems to have him playing for Wrexham and York at the same time Newman got to be a special player to manage that :-)
Have a look at Miley tomorrow if you want to see what a good young player looks like, he's there right in front of your eyes every week

Welcome to Eastleigh Simon. Personally, if I were you and read some of the drivel on this thread, I would get in my car and drive back to my parent club. If you do decide to stay then I think you will find that most of us just wish you the very best of luck. Thanks for coming down here to give it a go.

I echo back4more's comments.
He's got a decent pedigree, 30 is about the upper limit of what we should be looking at, IMO, but if it's for a quick fix only then it seems reasonable to me.
Also, if RH has been looking at the player in the past, it's worth bringing him in anyway to see how he fits in, maybe in the longer term. Nothing to lose.
Hollands has been our main man in midfield this season. He's been good, but had to do a lot by himself much of the time, he needs more support. Matthews and to a lesser extent Miley have shown promise but haven't played regularly. Maybe Heslop can bring more solidity.

Best 2 midfielders thus season have been yeates and Hollands. Best last season was Drury IMO, all over 30. I think some people worry too much about age, let’s face it most/all of us have not seen/heard of Simon heslop so very silly to make a judgement on him

Yeates has been quite good overall this season, currently playing well, but he plays on the wing. I'm not convinced he tracks back consistently either. Beano has IMO fulfilled that role reasonably well too. Wood's been useful, midfield or full-back.
But none of these help the solidity of our midfield, especially in the centre. Maybe Heslop can do that. He played well for Wrexham as a defensive midfield player the season before last. He was captain at York and has played regularly for them this season and last, so not sure what's going on there. Perhaps a victim of all the turmoil in the club. He sounds ambitious enough anyway.
Drury was, and still is, class. Scored a typical goal on Saturday for Ebbsfleet, ghosting in from midfield. Big mistake to get rid of him, but there may have been other things going on at the time.

What's the problem with 30 for heavens sake? Midfielders best years should be around 25-33. The issue might be injuries. We do have a terrible knack of buying players who are carrying long term injuries. Hopefully this guy bucks the trend.

Surprised no one above has mentioned both Boyce and Howe...very strange, personally I think they have fitted in very well at the back!

If so, maybe we should be looking for new medical staff.

I've mentioned Boyce and Howe a lot on other threads (for example, see Reda thread).
Strongest part of the team IMO, especially given that our full backs (especially on the right) haven't been great this season.
Howe 23, Boyce 27. Both played together at Scunthorpe and Lincoln. We need to keep Howe at the club when his loan period is over (I know I've said that several times).
Came to the club young enough, with good experience, but still hungry enough for success/to make it back to a higher level. Precisely the sort of player we should be signing. The partnership would probably never have happened if Cresswell and Reda hadn't been injured.
We've also done well with Williamson, and, to a lesser extent, with Matthews and Miley. We've just signed Shaw. Recent signings, especially the younger ones (30 IMO is an age at which some are getting past it and some aren't), haven't been at all bad. Critics note.
Agree we need to look at the medical/fitness area - not just injuries, but also the team's inability to last 90 minutes.

Couple of points. RH said he's a box to box midfielder, which we have been missing. And on age, I'm pretty sure Glenn Southam was over 30 when he came to us.

Did ok today, clearly not match fit for this level but gave 100%, should get up to speed next couple of games.. Seems he has been signed as cover for Hollands who was in the stands today, either rested or injured. A lot of his passes were negative and backwards but he put in a good shift.
Miley my MOTM today though. Such a good young player

Yes, I'd say martfergie got it about right on SH.
I thought Cav had a really good first half & is trying to take on more responsibility within the team. He is worth persevering with. Toss up between him & Willow as our MOTM. Blimey, where would we be without Williamson's goals?
