Thanks blackie, I think certain people on here could find an argument in an empty room. As for ‘experience’ perhaps have a look at the result at Ashton gate on tues 30 something rookie manager lee Johnson 4 vastly experienced and international manager Hodgson 1.

The result (or goals scored) at Aston Gate, by most accounts, flattered Bristol City a little. City had mainly a first team while Palace made a lot of changes from their previous League game.
But to bring this discussion down to NL level, let's look at one of AH's former clubs, Dover Athletic, & in particular EFC's nemesis, Chris Kinnear. He managed them from 1985-95, and returned to the club in 2013 to take the club back up to the Conference at the first attempt. Since then, the club has performed consistently well, no doubt on fewer resouces less than EFC. So he must be doing something right, and I think I'm right in saying they're still technically part-time. CK is certainly the wrong side of 50, possibly even 60. So there's a good example of an older Manager returning to a club but being consistently succesful.

Agreed nobadspitfire I think Kinnear at Dover is doing an exceptional job with a PT team and smaller budget than EFC.
He has seen players leave over the last couple of seasons such as Sean Raggett, Aswad Thomas and Ricky Miller and has replaced them with players that have kept the club at the same competitive level over the last 3 seasons. Even regularly playing 2 of our ex-players Ryan Bird and Connor Essam who seem to be doing ok there!
Eastleigh by comparison have made poor player choices and the team has gone backwards in competitiveness as borne out by the league finishes since Hilly left. However, Hilly has not moved the team forward one bit since returning and the player recruitment and retention is poor IMO, which is borne out by our current league position and lacklustre performances of late. Re-engaging 3 players who are clearly past their best doesn't seem a good way forward and that's just for starters.

Interesting comment about poor player choice, blackie. Ryan Bird signed for us last season and didn't impress at all, apart from scoring 4 FA Cup goals v North Leigh. He left us in the January clear out & moved up a level to help Newport County (where another ex Eastleigh reject, David Pipe is now playing & they're in the top 10 of L2) avoid relegation to the NL, and he's now top scorer with Dover. There are plenty of other similar examples, (Scott Wilson on Saturday, anyone?) so why is it that so many players seem to come to us and fail to succeed?
On the other hand, Ben Williamson hasn't been exactly prolific at his other clubs, but has hit great goalscoring form for us. Indeed, he could well have been top scorer in the NL now were it not for the injury he suffered.
You also mentioned aging players. If you're referring to Strevs & Macca, they were supposed to be on the Management side & it was thought they would only play infrequently. Injuries and form of others has dictated otherwise.

Marca should not be first change every match. The problem I see is the style of play and lack of tactics, I and everyone around me can’t see what the formation is, we only score from set pieces or lobbing in the ball hoping for knockdown, the biggest cheer on Tuesday was when we strung 3 passes together before the hoof came. Before the game they practice passing to each other then come the match they forget to do it. As we have no pace it is easy to defend us as teams push up knowing we can’t get b hind them. Our best hope is to have a strong defence so we can nick the odd 1-0, but we don’t look like we can keep a clean sheet, confidence is shot and the way back must be a change in direction on an off the pitch

Blackie, re your comment "Re-engaging 3 players who are clearly past their best doesn't seem a good way forward and that's just for starters....", I thought that the players I'm guessing you are referring to were brought back by Martin Allen and were already back at Eastleigh when RH came back himself.

RH retained these players who are past their best in the summer. The same as playing Beano in midfield when for all of his career he’s been a striker. If you need a RM then get one who’s position it has always been - preferably sub 30.
