Eastleigh Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of experienced centre forward Ben Williamson.
The 28-year old arrives at the club after being released from league two side Cambridge United.
Williamson started his career at Worthing before linking up with Glenn Hoddle at his academy in Spain. In 2011 Ben joined Bournemouth where he featured in their play-off semi-final against Huddersfield Town. He has also played for Port Vale & Gillingham.
Ben has been training with the squad recently and also featured in the 2-1 win against AFC Stoneham on Tuesday night.
First team manager Richard Hill said: “ I’m delighted to secure the services of Ben, especially with a list of National League teams after him”.
Williamson will now link up with the squad on a permanent basis and has been handed the number 25 shirt.

He looked very promising we thought. Apparently McCallum and Zebroski were carrying slight injuries and Beano has been treated for a foot injury. Thankfully none of these appear too serious but perhaps Hilly was hesitant to give Zeb and Beano 90 minutes

not the hardest goal today but always good to see a new striker get their first goal for us

Essential that strikers are in the right place at the right time. If all his goals are tap ins, have no problem with that.

In an earlier thread I said that a striker's goalscoring record in a previous season was not necessarily representative of how they would perform the following season and I see that Ben has already scored more goals for us than he did in 33 league games for Cambridge United last season.
If you look at our other current forwards one did not play at all last season, one has only previously scored 21 goals above Isthmian League level, last season's scoring record of another has been frequently commented on here, and another was in a previous spell signed to help us get promoted which he did despite a poor scoring record the previous season.
However none of this really matters. It is whether the team's style of play and training methods can get the best out of individual players this time around that counts.

spot on. fingers crossed we might just be building something this season, early days so far of course.
People get carried away about scoring goals but of course that is only half the equation, you gotta not let them in as well & strikers can be a good part of that
