Last night was a very special night for young Callum, he is the oldest of my two grandsons at 10 (I do have 6 granddaughters!), and he told me some while ago he would love to see Eastleigh play. This being half term, it seemed an ideal opportunity. I am lucky enough to be able to use the executive club these days, and Callum came in with his Granny and I to enjoy a wonderful meal, before settling down to watch the match. He came with me and Rendel so was behind the goal which Eastleigh were attacking. He had a great time went home with a hat and a scarf and was really pleased with his evening, he couldn't stop talking about it.
My purpose in writing this post is to flag up a few of the people at EFC who helped make his evening such a great experience. The first person we saw was Jai Reason, as he arrived in his car. He gave us a really warm friendly smile and hello, and immediately became Callum's favourite footballer. In the exec club, Chris did his normal brilliant job. In case you don't know it Chris is a fantastic advert for our club, he is very friendly, totally efficent and nothing is ever too much trouble. The two ladies in there with him, were a delight. When Callum's Granny wanted orange juice, they didn't have it, but ten minutes later they had obtained some. The food (beef curry) was superb as was the lemon cheese cake.
The game had some language which Granny would rather not have heard, but she took it in the spirit it was intended, and even though the first half was turgid, Callum was very happy and enjoying himself. At half time more drinks and biscuits, and then we walked round to the club house end: room was made for him to be down at the front and Callum loved the drumming, the singing, the goal celebrations and the whole atmosphere of the game; at the end he was keen to clap the players, and go through what he had seen. Back in the Executive club, for a sit down and more drinks, he was an excited 10 year old chatterbox, keen to see the club shop, which we visited. It was still open at 10 and a lovely lady, was very chatty and friendly to Callum asking if one day he might like to be a mascot, saying this was possible if he became a regular, when he realised this would mean he would be walking on the pitch with the players, he almost burst with excitement.
I would like to thank everyone at the club for making this such a lovely evening for one young boy. Almost certainly now, to be a life long football fan. It make me very proud to support this great club. To everyone who was a part of our evening yesterday. You made a bid difference. Thank you one more.

Great to hear, Michael. Slightly expanded version for the programme, perhaps?

Yes a lovely story of a nice evening for the young lad. You could almost sense his excitement as you relate to your own first experience of a proper football match when we were all young, and as Michael says...now almost certainly a life long football fan.

A great post. It reminds me of when we took our 7 year old daughter (who is now an Eastleigh season ticket holder) to Stamford Bridge for the first time in the eighties. We were playing a very good Brian Clough's Notts Forest side, containing such players as Gary Birtles, Neil,Webb, Stuart Pearce, Nigel Clough, Des Walker and Lee Bowyer. It was an incredible first half, with Forest taking an early lead, before Chelsea coming back with 2 quick goals from Pat Nevin and Johnny Bumstead. It was cracking end to end stuff, with Forest leading 4-2 at halftime. We went into the Executive Club for our tea and biscuits, buzzing about a brilliant game of football (but not too happy with the score.) The second half continued in the same vein, with Forest running out 6-2 winners. Again we went back for our post match refreshments, with me saying that there was no way that we should have lost the game by that margin. My daughter said :- " Don't be silly Daddy, they didn't lose; they drew 4-4." It was then that we realised that no one had told her that the teams change ends at halftime!
