Interesting that should we get to play offs that think Tubbs loan ends just before they start, or just before final, can't remember which.
If we want to sign Tubbs for next year then we better drop the Beano combo pretty quick as he isn't going to sign based on what he has experienced so far. As said last week though, Beano is signed for next year isn't he so he won't be dropped, but should be to facilitate Tubbs. If you are not going to facilitate Tubbs then pointless him being here.
Beano works his ass off but for me is just non effective in the way we play.
Jai in the middle will help Tubbs as well, but bet Jai is pushed out left again come the weekend. Both RH and CT are all too similar for me in game strategy. You've got to take chances to create chances, especially when we can't keep clean sheets.
Jai for me should always be central and we build around him, not the other way around .

Have we got an option to sign Tubbs for next year? That's the first question. If his availability is limited, how often should we play him?
If we have, then we have to work out the best combinations PDQ. Beano and Tubbs doesn't appear to be working (not sure why, I really think it should - as BushFire says 'History shows that Tubbs only scores goals when playing alongside a target man who wins the ball in the air') so do we prioritise Tubbs (assuming we can get him for next season) and try him with Midson/Yemi? Bear in mind combinations need a while to work out, including a lot of time on the training ground. We haven't got that time! Tubbs probably isn't match fit yet either, having played very little since Nov. That should come soon.
I've always said that Jai is one of the few matchwinners we have, someone who can do something unexpected and special (Cook IMO is another). So has he been unfit, unhappy or just played in the wrong position/too many positions this season? I think it's hard to tell. Again, if we are going to build round him then we need to commit ourselves to it.

We won, why ring in all the changes?? Beano must play for me this Saturday. Confidence is low because we couldn't win for toffee, that worm is turning.
What is a 'cooling off period' though??? Can anyone enlighten me.....Am I missing something or is it just me who doesn't get it? I wish the club would make interesting information like this known more often. I for one, have never heard of this....

We dont need to build around him just yet, we just need to try and find him the right partner for the remaining games of this season. If we stay as we are and play Beano up top + 1 other, we are going to probably win 6 of our remaining 11 games, draw 2 and lose 3. That gets us to 77 points, which isnt going to be enough for this seasons Play offs. So try Tubbs and Midson and see what happens. Midson can win flick ons and is better at holding the ball up than Beano, so he lays it off to Jai who picks Tubbs out with a good ball. It has to be tried, we are failing Tubbs bigtime if we do not try it. If Tubbs is not going to be here next season, then we have 2 choices, we cut him off now (that might be as expensive as keeping him, depending on the terms of the loan) or we give him a go with someone other than Beano. Either way, none of that is building for next season and it doesn't need to be either. But it might just give us a better crack at hitting the play offs this year, because our form shows, we are not good enough as we are, so whats to lose? If you were Tubbs right now, you are not going to be thinking i'll stay at Eastleigh next season are you? He will get L2 opportunities at the end of the season and Pompey could easily sell him for good money (i believe he has 1 year left on his contract), so that will say a lot about us as a club, if we cannot find him a strike partner to play alongside him at this level, & try at least to tempt him to stay with us.

For all those asking. Todd said to me after the game Tubbs loan period had actually run out. Rules dictate there has to be a "cooling off" period between the deal ending and him resigning. He will be available this weekend.

Really, i'm sure the announcement was that we had signed him to the end of this season? Pompey clearly do not intend to play him, so why would it only be a 1 month deal.

I thought all loan deals were for an initial 28 days where they couldn't be recalled by their parent clubs then after that the terms were open to re-negotation

I have heard along these lines before as well. Obviously this story has come out in a slightly strange way "cooling off period" makes me think of changing energy supplier and then changing your mind!- but I'm guessing it was basically a case of Pompey potentially scuppering the loan for whatever reason(s).
Anyway all is well that ends well, assuming he is available for selection on Sat.

Ref options going forward, we've generally struggled in most areas of the pitch in the past 10 or so weeks. There is (hopefully) some signs that we are turning things around - crucially at home which will be so vital for the rest of the season (not least in the next week).
Not really seen enough of Tubbs to form an opinion but would certainly hope a striker of his experience and pedigree would be capable of playing in many different systems/partnerships going forwards. I don't see Tubbs future at EFC after this season as a relevant question at all at the moment. IMO he was a short term signing (no problem with that at all in the circumstances), with the aim of firing us into the top 5 with 8-10 goals. Its not really worked so far, but no reason why it can't.
Hopefully the next couple of games will yield a few goals and questions re our frontline will fade into the background a little.

Weird how everyone has thought the cooling off period to be on Tubbs' side etc, what about us being able to refund our unwanted goods after a cooling off period, 0 goals in 5 games.... Only kidding I'm sure he'll come good.
Fairly sure we've got him up to and including the play off final hence it took so long to get him.

I'm telling you that's what Todd told me, Ian Wilding and Wendy Gee after the game. Effectively it is a rest of the season loan, but that deal wouldn't have accounted for the playoffs if we had made them. Doing it this way does.

Not sure what the rules are on loans, but players go to clubs for a whole seasons at a time, so i cannot see what the issue is with 28 days or 93 days or whatever gets quoted as a loan period. You can loan someone for aslong as you like by the looks of it. The Chelsea keeper was on loan at Athletico Madrid for 3 seasons!

You can loan someone for aslong as you like y the looks of it. The Chelsea keeper was on loan at Real Madrid for 3 seasons! I am hazarding a guess here that it came down to what Pompey wanted. You cannot recall players from LONG TERM loans, but can from SHORT TERM ones, so perhaps they dictated that it had to be a short term one only in case they need to recall Matt. The rule for short term comes with a maximum of 93 days in any one season so I guess we did it in two stages with a gap so that would be eligible for the playoffs. "Emergency Loan” means a short term loan transfer to a National League club for a period of no fewer than 28 days (or, in exceptional circumstances, 7 days for a goalkeeper) and no more than 93 days in any one season for a qualifying player within the terms of the Rules. Applicable only during appropriate times during the closed transfer window period."
