Second summer signing is George Langston, 19 year old defender, released by Watford. Looks as if he may have had a loan at Wealdstone at the end of the 20-21 season, details not very clear though.

Sattsy do you know anything about this lad. I see he captained their under 23's. So hopefully a bit of a leader for his young years.Welcome George.

Not really, i asked a couple of my Watford pals about him, they both knew him but as he never really broke through to the first team, he wasn't on their radar. That said, if you are the U23 skipper and haven't broke through, then you likely never will, so given WFC were relegated the club must have felt he wasn't going to break through in the Championship either, so released him. I like the fact he was skipper and calls himself a leader, which means he's confident, so i look forward to seeing him in action for us, as i feel we lack leaders in our squad.

I see his dad (Matthew) also had a similar career path at Watford, never broke through and was released. I was hoping to find out he was the son of an Andy Langston, who i played against and with at youth and county level. Could be an uncle i guess.

It's not uncommon for young players to be released by bigger clubs but find a new, successful home at a lower level. Then, in this case Watford, the player goes on to prove their previous club wrong.
Welcome George, good luck.

Yes it certainly does happen alot. One of the things that always surprised me is that when players are released from Premier League clubs having non really featured in the first team (premier league fixtures), they more often than not go straight into Non league. I'm surprised that a L1 or L2 club doesnt pick them up. Have to say though, its extremely rare that they do end up back in the Premier league with a different club after dropping into non league. I can't think of one player that has done that, maybe others can?

Solly left Palace at the age of 13 (Wiki), so he was only aa youth player, rather than a player who could be considered on the fringes of the first team squad then released. I just double checked and when he left Palace aged 13 in 2007, Palace were in the Championship. There has to be one....?

I've sort of found one!
Elliot Ward Played 15 times for West Ham and left them in 2006 when they were promoted into the Premier league. However he never featured and was released in the January. So not sure that counts, although he was being paid by a premier league club until his release. Joined many FL clubs before winning promotion to the Premier league with AFC Bournemouth, leaving them in 2016.
There could be a few from that Bournemouth team. Tyrone Mings was almost another (he played for Eastleigh too), but he left Southampton at the age of 16 the year they were promoted back into the Prem and then has gone on to play for Bournemouth and Villa in the prem. But as he left Southampton at 16 without getting near the 1st team, i'm classing him as a Youth player rather than a 1st team fringe player.
