Both higher-placed teams at home but have to be absolutely on their game to make that count. I think at least one of them won't make it to the final.... So, Grimsby beat the favourites in probably the best non-league match I've ever seen (on TV), with a 'Hollywood finish'. The Champions' League final later today will have something to live up to. Incredible performance by the Mariners to beat the favourites, who showed their pedigree at times too, especially from set pieces, and they will believe they can win the final next Sunday. The ref added to the excitement and unpredictability with a 'typical NL referee performance' - shocking. Not an easy game for him, though - it VAR had been in operation we'd still be playing.

Well done the Mariners always a set of fans I have admired both home and away. Goes to show big money helps but it is certainly no guarantee. So far every manager knocked out in this year's play offs has resigned the following day and joined a football league club. Will Phil Parkinson be doing the same, don't think so on this occasion. Still have my money on Solihull Moors especially with their 'special' keeper.

2 119th minute winners for Grimsby, they must be feeling confident they can do it.
Solihull v Chesterfield in the other semi tomorrow.

Today just summed up what being a football fan is all about just an emotional roller-coaster the same as Monday.
Still have a sneaky suspicion for Solihull and would rather play Chesterfield tbh, never thought we would make it to the final but now we are there would be gutted to lose.
I will be getting the Fareham express up to the London Athletics stadium hoping we can finish the job off!

You were right about Solihull, they played well enough against a disappointing Spirites team. Ref had a good game today.
They will probably be slight favourites in the final, but who can bet against the Mariners after their run so far?
Will be good to see Joe McDonnell and Callum Howe play at the London Stadium. The 6ft 9 Hudlin needs to be watched too, but I think their midfield is also pretty good, despite the suspension of Osborne.

So the Chesterfield £1million bank loan borrowed to finance promotion this season has backfired, they were running away with it until the manager was sacked, then it all fell apart. Will be interesting to see what they do now, what sort of team they will have next season. High time also that The Football League allowed three up from The National League especially as the division is of a much higher standard than League Two anyway, they have the evidence, teams often get into League One fairly quickly after promotion from our league, with most of the rest obtaining top half finishes as well.

Was planning on a trip to the London Stadium for this weekends play off final between Grimsby and Solihull but somewhat shocked by the ticket details that were finally published today.
£45 plus a £3 booking fee on every ticket. Only concession price being for Under 16s and nothing for us oldies.
Hope Grimsby do well but do not think I am keen enough to shell out at that rate.
Best of luck Richgy, assume you will be fine especially as you are Rich 😉 .

Just get a concession, they don't care, we're all QR codes at the end of the day. Went to League Two and Championship Play Off Final this weekend for £36

Wrexham probably spent double or near triple and also didn't go up. This league has gone mad.

I understand the argument that a similarly sized League 2 has 4 promotion spots and the Championship has three promotion spots when it is clearly weaker than the Premiership, can be used as an indicator that the National League should have more promotion spots I do not necessarily think there is evidence that the National League is necessarily stronger than League 2.
Of the last six clubs promoted from the National League into League 2, four finished in the bottom half of League 2 and two in the top half. Looking at the different clubs that have been promoted from the National League since automatic promotion was introduced I made it 12 clubs that played at a higher level than league 2 last season (there will be 13 next season), but 18 have subsequently been able to hold on to their league place (this number will be reduced to 17 if Grimsby win their playoff final.
What is striking is the fact that at least three clubs have been relegated from League 1 and League 2 in successive seasons, probably I would expect as a result of mismanagement. Some clubs such as Notts County seem to have grave problems when they drop down to non-league, but they seem to be able to regroup and become a competitive outfit and I certainly think it is possible that Oldham and Scunthorpe can follow suit.

Thanks hope we do it big problems with the ticketing though we sold out the lower tier so only uppers were available and the concessions were the same price as adult so 45! Luckily the club managed to persuade them to make the concessions available in the upper tier too... Definitely not Rich after the concorde club lol

Can't see Scunthorpe doing anything they will be playing their under 18s unless taken over and you've seen how physical this league can be, can see them dropping right through

Reading the information about the work the Grimsby supporters are putting in to raise money to help fans who can not afford the ridiculous play off final match ticket price, by lunchtime they had raised over 13k but what really took my eye was the number of Wrexham fans who were donating the money they would have spent on tickets if they had got through. Fantastic gestures, especially when football fans normally get such bad press.

The Mariners make it a hat-trick of extra-time wins against higher-placed teams with another comeback win, this time at the London Stadium. Back where they (should) belong.
Congratulations to them - hard luck Solihull, they are a very good side, but the character shown by Paul Hurst's side - again.....
Great support from their fans too in a 22897 crowd which would probably have been higher in a different stadium with better prices.

Only 23000 for such an important game? That's about half the crowd for the FA Trophy final, IIRC! Poor decision by the NL to hold it there. It is rather late this year. One hopes lessons will be learnt.
