We are just a smidgeon light aren't we? We have the bedrock of experience with Hollands, Boyce, Partington and Payne playing today supporting a very talented bunch of younger players. I think we saw enough though to know that even if we actually ended up in the top 7 we would not reach the play off final. I also thought that if Cav Miley had been playing from the start we would not have conceded that goal. To the team - just ignore me and prove me wrong.

More than a smidgeon. Clear out needed in the summer. New players needed in all positions, bar keeper I would say. McDonnell has impressed me

I think you'll find it's McDonnell Halifax08. Hollands on your list must be close to retirement. As for get rid of the rest - you clearly don't have much support for the club. Hill and Blair look promising. Smart has been one of our few creative outlets. Miley was great before he was out injured for a while. Greener should be playing (with Tomlinson further forward). I must admit I am not a fan of Payne (think his dead ball delivery is poor). Worry about Wynter's fitness. Baggie a useful impact player. Bearwish is one of our own. Partington's form, especially passing, has been poor at times but defending ok. Smith is still finding his feet at this level. Given the budget we have I doubt we would get much better.

Splitting hairs about spelling. Agreed Blair keep. Our defence is good. Up front we are rubbish. We are too inconsistent. Two great quality strikers, then Eastleigh stand a chance. Smart has been found out. Partington and Green have seen their best days. Can too. Eastleigh need a clean sweep. Build on our 5-6 best, and get better players to fill the gap.

I know I have not seen many games this season, but I wonder if it is coincidence that in the last three games which have been all lost we have been without both Tyrone Barnett and Ben House, when the pair have played together in victories against Dagenham and Redbridge, Boreham Wood, Yeovil. Stockport, Hartlepooll and Halifax all within the last ten weeks which helped to propel us close to the playoff places. These two are the only two players apart from Tomlinson who takes the penalties to have scored more than three goals for the club this season. On listening to the interview with Ben Strevens and he said he had been working hard to bring in someone on temporary loan, but could not quite get a deal over the line.
I also think that if Chesterfield had been performing as well at the start of the season as they have under their new manager they would be challenging for automatic promotion rather than a playoff place. I think the reason they went relegated to this level three seasons after reaching the division 1 playoffs and struggled for the first two seasons in this competition was the resignation of their chairman and chief shareholder plus several of his directors. Now that this season they have a new board and a new manager things are looking brighter for them.

I think spitfiresteve has hit the nail on the head ,it's all about budget and I certainly don't want the days of players coming for a final payday , much rather see young improving players. Let's not forget there was speculation about Ben House leaving us for a league team in January and now you want him gone.As the original post said a smidgion light and I don't think we are ready for football league, but don't panic I'm sure you will see players come and go in the summer, that's football .
