Look at the badges of many far more famous clubs. Are their badges a true depiction of what they are supposed to represent. From owls to swans to (as a green exile) the good ship mayflower. However, if you are going to say something is... (Spitfire) then ithastobea Spitfire. If you say the Pilgrms left on the Mayflower, but our badge only represents an old sailing ship. That works. Don't say something is, when it is not. Everyone knows what a Spitfire looks like because it is still in living memory. The Mayflower is not. Torquay's badge is a representation of a gull. Hence their nickname. Eastleigh aren't called The Aeroplanes. Yes,its all about opinions: but?

Perhaps it's a caricature of a spitfire, not quite right but you still recognise it.

In 1983, John Lydon (etal) released a song; "This is not a love song." Could Eastleigh fc not use that tune as the players walk on to the pitch, fists against badge as a new song pumps out: "This is not a Spitfire" it's only an idea for chapter three. Let's recap: Chpt 1. Formation of Swaythling Athletic. Chpt 2. Rebranding as Eastleigh fc. Chpt 3. Let's change the badge to an aeroplane. Chpt 4. Why are our supporters watching Stoneham? When Eastleigh go bust under Kenny and Coffey, Stoneham is exactly where I will choose to watch my football. A great little community club who play decent football. Would they dream of not playing in purple for a silly rebranding, marketing stunt. Of course not.

View AttachmentYes, that is a characature of a Spitfire: you have the wings, nose and fusilage looking like a Spitfire. Our new badge does not. I'm p'd off, that Eastleigh's nickname is being traded off. It seems everyone knows their Spitfire except Eastleigh fc. I contacted Eastleigh last week. I've had no reply. I'll not buy the brand.

Blimey. Who would think people would get so fussed about the style of plane on the badge. It looks ok to me but I am not really fussed either way.
Maybe some of you lot should stop pretending to be football supporters and join a plane spotters club?

Why are people getting so upset over a badge and with some saying they may support another team. Surely we support the team and the club and if the players are happy with it that’s good enough for me. The badge is only a representation of the Spitfire and i’m sure there were good reasons why a real one couldn’t be used. Anyway there are more important things in life atm than a badge and hopefully we can get back to watching Eastleigh football again.

Then why doesn't the club give that good reason a Spitfire can't be used? This is the problem, THEY DON'T TELL THE FANS NOTHING...its poor PR. As for the players liking it, well they are PAID as employee's of the club on contracts, they aren't going to say something bad if they know what side the butter is spread on and they won't be here many years anyway. Fans are here forever, til they die, and if some of us don't like the badge then we can say so, I think we have a right to be upset if we feel that way about it Steve.

What did SD give us a vote on by the way? Changing the clubs colours? Killing off the shed end? A greens seated stand? Making numerous overpaid vanity signings? No of course he didnt, but he was entrusted with taking the club forward and progressing everything which he did brilliantly at, he made lots of mistakes like everyone does he's human like the rest of us, that's why you used to slag him off like the rest of us SOE. Our current owners have been also trusted to move the club on and they've seen fit to change the badge, they dont actually have to ask anyone, in a perfect world we would have got the choice, and I expect they would have got a heavy 80-90% approval rate. AFC Stoneham? Weren't they previously Ordnance Survey and still use their badge? They charge the same as Eastleigh FC ST rate and dont even own their own place or have a clubhouse, just play at a Hampshire FA facility, all the best to them but dont pretend they are also a shining beacon of innocence

I agree Keith that they should have at least told us they were changing the badge but to have a vote on it by around 1000 ST holders would have been difficult and the winning one may have been worse than this one. I’m sure you will have an opportunity to ask Kenny about the design. I accept that fans have a right to express their feelings but as previously been said I don’t think those at the club read this forum. It is unofficial btw.

Callum, SD asked the ones that mattered, he never forgot the group of fans he met on his first match as owner, away at Salisbury on a Tuesday evening. To him, those fans were the diehards, your talking about Shirley, Jacko, Pagey, Chris, Sattsy, Dan, Myles, Russell, Barry and Irene, Mark and Kat, he always had time for this group of fans and valued their opinions. Yes he has made mistakes, he admitted to them, and yes I have moaned about his bad decisions, but as a mate I will defend him 100% for all the good things he did at EFC and how good he has been to me personally. He will be back, and then watch him carry out the promise he made that night in Salisbury, he has always felt we can get to League One at least on his fortune, with a partner alongside him possibly The Championship too. He will be all the better for the experiences at Sunderland and our club, on his return will reap the benefits of it. And to clarify, he did ask fans about changing our colours, he had no control over the shed end, the stewards are 100% in charge of crowd control, and the green seats were simply because they were going cheap, long term he said they would be taken out for blue ones. Not sure if you knew Callum but he was planning to have the dressing rooms under that stand with a bar and food area for fans as well, that was when the green seats were to be replaced, but when he left, those plans were mothballed. As I say Callum, I'll defend the man 100% if the facts are incorrect mate.

A thought: The Spitfire cannot be copyrite protected. Eastleigh had the Spitfire image imprinted on the home shirt last year. So there is no argument there. I used to work at Vickers, when they were at Wessex House in Market Street. As a child I used to draw what I thought looked like Spitfires, but then I was under ten years of age. So, come on; let's get the badge right. Eastleigh are the Spitfires. So, let's have a Spitfire on the badge. Not an aeroplane designed by a child.

Lets get this thread going again. Its nearly a year since we changed the club badge I was all for it and felt it modernised the badge but why do we still have the old badge displayed around the ground mainly the main entrance/car park? Did we not have the funds to complete the overhaul? or just club officials with no eye for detail? Just seeing social media picture's you can see plenty of the old badges around and last time I went past the big crest is still on west stand. Doesn't look great IMO good job away fans haven't been coming for the last year.

You pretty much answer your own question when you say 'fans haven't been coming for a year'. I would guess that if you are in the middle of a pandemic, the scale of which has never before been experienced by just about any living sole, you may have other priorities on whatever limited expenditure you are still able to muster. Somethings, I guess, are planned but on hold as not crucial to day to day existence.
