Last post and others baffling on a few levels, hard to read the harsh comments on our current owners - I'm sure if they had the money many of you crave us to have, then you would stay silent and lap up any new developments. As of 22 May the club is 74 years old, that means this year is significant as we are heading into our 75th year, worries me that this wouldnt be initially apparent. As for questions over a 9 month process just to opt with the initial design, I'm sure there were many tweaks - intact Chris Payne mentions thousand of little tweaks. As for re branding never having worked again I question your historical overview of the game of football, many of our elite clubs have had 7+ new badges with some having 10 or so, have a look. thefootballcrestindex.com/This new badge has been seen in a very positive light by the majority if you scan the social medias, and as for people not knowing who Eastleigh FC is , as someone who spends majority of his life in Liverpool I can assure you when I wear the badge around town it's a knowing glance, in 2020, Eastleigh FC is paraded around the internet pages on many levels and TV news tickers endlessly, to show the town off for what it achieved collectively, many moons ago can surely only be something to be proud of.

Everyone has a right to express their views Callum and there are times when being harsh to the current owners is justified. I'm giving my own personal view here but many fans, particularly those who have been long term fans over many years before SD came in will share some, if not, all the points I make. Firstly I think its generally accepted this new badge came as a complete surprise to everyone, a process that took 9 months. The owners say they consulted with fans about the design, can we assume that TSSC were involved? If so why was this idea not put out to TSSC members? Why didn't the TSSC put the information out? Is it because they were never told you think Callum? By and large we are a pretty close knit group of supporters, you'd think somebody at least would have heard about the badge design being rebranded wouldn't you and put the word out? Can't you see why there appears to be an arrogance of the owners to do this quietly without consulting the very people it matters most to, the fans? Because it is the fans who will have to buy the new shirts with the new badge, surely their views are important aren't they? It is not about these owners having any money to put into the club and make us successful, I certainly would not be silent on this matter if Stewart Donald pulled a stunt like this, so saying I'd approve if money was a factor is way off the mark Callum. I have a model spitfire on a bookcase in my bedroom, now if you stand over it and look at the shape, then look at the badge, because it is looking at the plane as if over it, you'll see it is absolutely nothing like a spitfire on the badge. How can a person be paid to create a design not even do something as simple as that to see the proper shape of a spitfire from above it? Totally unprofessional is it not Callum? And our two owners thought the design wonderful and approved the first design. The new badge is very bland, I think many of our supporters could have designed a better one, and mainly because they have a genuine passion for the club, they would care about the design they produce, not some bloke who really does not give a monkey's what it means to us. My hurt is that I will never buy another Eastleigh Football shirt with this badge on it, and I've bought 15 over the years because I am proud to show my support for the club, now I can't do that unless I wear an old one. My hope is that when SD returns we can get him to change this terrible design. I accept the younger groups of our fan base like the new badge, but probably are unaware it is not a spitfire on it, but generally the older fans know its not, and that's why it is not being embraced by those generations in equal measure. So who exactly did Kenny and Tom consult with from the fan base? A couple of corporate members? TSSC? Was this design mentioned at any fan forums before the lockdown? Why the secrecy? The whole saga stinks because as far as I can tell it was top secret and kept from the fans. It should never have been done this way, another PR disaster from the club, at least with SD he ALWAYS put new ideas to the fans, he wanted their input, he wanted us to feel it is OUR club....something Kenny and Tom seem to not understand for some reason.

I don’t think it was actually said anywhere that they only had one design? From what I saw in the article and videos; the designer designed a fair few BUT it was his first design that they liked the most.
Although it can work. From my experience - asking fans to design a badge doesn’t really work. Design is never quite as simple as mocking something up in paint. Unless the submitter has some experience or is comfortable in design software then you’d need someone to recreate that design before its printed anyway.
Just to play devils advocate here and not saying this is right or wrong; there’s tonnes of football club logos which don’t exactly match the representation I.e whether that’s a bird, a castle or a tree. It’s more of a graphical representation to form a part of a crest.

Well said the badge is poorly executed. The motivation behind this just does not add up either. 75 years, so what! Branding to promote us nationally, utter nonsense for a non league club! Frankly the board have been handed the keys to a professional football club and all this strikes me as, is a media stunt. Its a good way to deflect and hide the fact the board are skint and have no real money to invest. That's not a criticism or their fault but if they want the club to move forward they should devote their energies to looking for real investors than play with the clubs heritage and pretending their is some sort of new chapter. Kenny and Tom, if you read this, start properly listening to the fans as you can't afford the smallest of margins to be lost from your fan base next year.

My guess is that very few people now read this forum & therefore why would Kenny & Tom? How many have commented on this subject? No more than 10, I guess, without counting. The club uses FB & Twitter (& maybe Instagram?) to communicate with supporters & reaction on there to the change was positive. I've been posting on here since it's inception & the previous one before. Has anyone commented on the Ramblers forum about the logo? Ah, just looked, nothing posted since 26/5. Let's face it these fora are grinding very slowly towards extinction, frequented largely by bitter & twisted misanthropes wanting to vent their spleens. Younger supporters (the future) don't want to read old gits moaning all the time & who can blame them? I wonder how much life these fora have in them when there's so much negativity.

Your comments make a lot of sense Martin, it is quite obvious Kenny and Tom care more about Facebook and Twitter contact rather than the forums. They are not interested in the older generation, we are not the future as far as they are concerned. You would never see SD take that attitude, he would view all systems of contact with the fan base, he would not cut one sector out, the old gits as you call us. But lets not forget a couple of seasons back how the club behaved towards our younger fans and many stopped going, it was us old gits who voiced the opinion that the club had got it wrong how they were treated generally because of a couple of bad apples. If Kenny and Tom have not viewed the forum on the badge discussion then it just shows their complete arrogance, but personally I suspect they have seen the posts. I don't think they will respond, they never have before when something is negative against them, they merely shut up and let it pass over time. One thing I must correct...and I have an eye test on Tuesday, is that the wings on the badge are NOT Spitfire shape either, in fact a friend who has a passion for ships and planes told me it looks without question a Hurricane plane actually in every sense. Could it be the so called designer thought he was looking at a spitfire when it was a hurricane? Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that, but surely when you buy something you want it to be right, be correct, before parting with your money. It's not a Spitfire, would you still buy it? Are you going to get fed up when people ask when you wear it "Why do you have a plane on your Eastleigh badge" and you reply "Its a Spitfire because it first flew from Eastleigh Airport in 1936" and the reply is "That's not a Spitfire though" But just forget that for a moment, the design anyway is like a blueprint of a plane, its about as bland as you could imagine isn't it? I really struggle to work out how Kenny and Tom thought it would be the right design on the shirt, words fail me it really does. I'm not so sure all our other directors are united about the badge, lets remember Kenny and Tom have a 91% controlling interest and what they say will be the final decision at board level. No money of their own yet they wield all the power in the club, its plain crackers to be honest, but we know they are just keeping the seat warm, yet destroying our club badge heritage without consulting the large fan base we have for their views. That is disgusting and frankly they should apologize and then resign their positions because this is a colossal error. One day in the not too distant future these two clowns will not be in charge at EFC yet they have tampered with OUR badge and unless it is changed into a Spitfire on a better design we will have a lasting memory of what they did to OUR club forever. I may be a lone voice that they should go, I accept that, but that is my belief, that's how strongly I feel about the club I support and care about because it has given me so much joy and pleasure since I started to support them ten years ago, I've seen the club play at 49 different grounds so far covering every corner of England, North, East, West and South, it has given me many new friends along the way, people I am proud to know and call friends so I am very grateful for that. But if I feel something is not right, I will stand up and say so, not because I want to, but because I care about EFC, it is MY club, just as it is to everyone of you, its YOUR club too. Kenny and Tom have got this wrong...is it too late, or are they just happy to accept they've got the younger generations approval and that is all that matters?

You make an interesting point spiritofeastleigh, the hurricane is similar but it looks like the designer has taken elements of both. Maybe is a Spitricane. I'm not sure what's going on on but as someone mentioned it could be something to do with copyright. HURRICANE. SPITFIRE SPITRICANE

Hi everyone, just seen the new badge story, certainly came out of the blue for me, definitely heard nothing re it despite dipping in and out of the forum over the last months. Totally understand how some feel upset, it’s a huge decision to make, so by rights a bit of consultation from the fans wouldn’t have gone amiss. I kind of understand the reasoning, an individual badge not a town crest , a chance to update just think the execution for some is just a bit like hitting the post in a penalty , just not quite there!! Personally when I saw it I liked it, then reading the forum and if you are going to be 100% true to the Spitfire it isn’t quite perfect is it? I think the nail has been hit on the head already though, it will be cheaper to manufacture and easier, there probably is some sort of copyright issue which is a shame as why not celebrate such an icon, yes it could of looked better if it was seen to be flying but I think once matches are played, players are seen running with it on their chest and it gets seen on tv, fans home and away will see a plane and the name so that in itself makes it obvious it’s the SPITFIRES playing. Hopefully once the new kits are out and football can be played again it might grow on some fans, again as I said at the start I totally understand the frustration of wanting it to be a bit more accurate, I think the fact nobody really knew hurts as much as the design. I hope it’s not an opportunity missed and the kits will sell off the shelf, the sentiment was there, bold fresh etc etc anyhow looking forward to the new season and the fixtures coming out. Keep safe everyone.

SoE, you might be at one end of the spectrum with your comments but I agree with much of what you say re the badge and the decision making process that preceded its introduction. I hope that within a season there will be a realisation that the "drawing board" needs to be gone back to and that the support should be consulted. There might not be enough people at the club who are able to carry out that kind of survey but there would be plenty of perfectly capable volunteers including some of our contributors on this "grinding to extinction" forum who would be happy to give their time. Clubs which number their support in tens and even hundreds of thousands can do it. It don't cost much and everyone ends up feeling they have had an input and can associate with the badge, even if it's not exactly what they personally wanted. In the meantime we are sadly stuck with this badge. I won't be rushing to buy any club merchandise bearing this disfigured image. There is a psychological test called the Rorschach test which is designed to find people's reaction to an image when they see it for the first time. I saw the "Angel of the North" when I first saw this so called Spitfire a few days ago and I notice someone else posted that he had exactly the same reaction. As an aeroplane, that shape would never fly and it's a disfigurement of the beautiful lines of the original machine. I will always think of it as the Botox Spitfire.

Most of these posts are far far too long and seem to repeat the same things over and over. In other words, after about 3/4 posts I got well bored.
I have been going to efc. for about 15 years now and I think the new badge looks fine. There you are, short and sweet.

I respect your post and you are fine about the new badge. The issue for those who don't like it is the fact it is NOT a Spitfire on the badge. I like the idea of a new Eastleigh badge with a Spitfire on it, don't get me wrong on that part of it, but the whole point is its not a Spitfire, its a FAKE plane, I don't think one like that even exists!!!! That's the problem. Before Kenny and Tom approved the design, did they ask an expert to look over the badge for them who knows about Spitfires? I'm guessing they didn't otherwise the flaws would have been pointed out. Two people, totally inexperienced about Spitfires, liked the design and approved it. I just cannot, hand on heart, buy and approve of something that pretends to be a Spitfire and wear it with pride because I know its not. How many of you would buy something that is not what it is supposed to be? Virtually everyone I imagine. Let's say someone buys the shirt, then discovers it not a spitfire as it claims to be, they've sold something under false pretences and you would be legally entitled to a full refund on your purchase. Didn't Kenny and Tom think about that? To get round that they would need to put a notice up by the shirts in big enough letters 'PLEASE NOTE THE PLANE ON THE BADGE IS NOT A SPITFIRE' but my guess is they will try and wing it, hoping no one takes it that far...perhaps the trading standard department might, who knows? Did the club consult with their legal advisors about the change of badge because I just wonder if it was pointed out its not a Spitfire the lawyers might have stepped in regarding the legal issues. I could go on, but it probably changes nothing until the day SD walks back in and controls the club again. I hope this badge is short lived, if you're going to mess with our history, our badge, at least have the decency to get it bloody right.

In 1983, John Lydon (etal) released a song; "This is not a love song."
Could Eastleigh fc not use that tune as the players walk on to the pitch, fists against badge as a new song pumps out: "This is not a Spitfire" it's only an idea for chapter three.
Let's recap: Chpt 1. Formation of Swaythling Athletic. Chpt 2. Rebranding as Eastleigh fc. Chpt 3. Let's change the badge to an aeroplane. Chpt 4. Why are our supporters watching Stoneham?

No, I agree. I am of a certain age that I remember seeing many Spitfires and making more than a few airfix models. The Spitfire had more pointy wing tips and the Hurricane had more rounded wing tips. The plane on the badge is more betwixt and between.
The badge I see as a symbol of the clubs nickname. Nothing more than that. Which, I think is how most people will see it.

Look at the badges of many far more famous clubs. Are their badges a true depiction of what they are supposed to represent. From owls to swans to (as a green exile) the good ship mayflower.
