Shocking badge, made without proper fan consultation. Why do clubs do this? Cardiff City is a fine example and the fans rightfully protested and returned the clubs colours and badge in the end. All this does is alienate fans who value the history and tradition of their club. The club have had the same badge for 40 years and the owners cant be bothered to consult with fans widely. Its poor Kenny, really poor. I won't buy the new shirt with this rubbish on and as someone else pointed out why an earth waste money on a rebrand when the club are likely to struggle to survive in the coming months.

As has been previously mentioned, the rebrand was started 9 months ago, unless the club had a crystal ball they wouldn’t have known about Covid-19. Hindsight is a great thing. I quite like it actually, pretty modern looking. Change happens, there are always some who don’t want change. Let’s be positive!

I found out this evening from a post by Callum on social media that the club had changed its badge. I have since made my views clear on the same media. Kenny in fairness has posted his rationale for the way they have introduced this new sloppy design but I can't accept the club's claim to have consulted its supporters. I would much prefer a return to the real badge until and unless there is a badge which the majority of supporters can identify with. As it stands I feel that my support and my views are not valued or appreciated by the club.

I looking at at them side by side I don't think it looks to bad. Complete contrast in design with a more contemporary look on the new one.

Even if more supporters (how many?) had been consulted, and it's just not possible to consult all, (not everyone uses soc med or indeed this forum, amazingly) there would still be elements on here who weren't happy with the final design and would moan about it. The feedback I've seen on Twitter & FB, maybe generally used by younger people than on here, has been very positive. Some people are just grumpy old gits, don't like change or are pedants. It's done! It's the club's own intellectual property, not borrowed from Eastleigh BC. Get over it! Move on and embrace it for the future.

I quote Stewart Donald "I may be the owner but I am just the custodian, the club belongs to the fans because its your community" what we have here is two very arrogant owners who thought nothing of consulting the fans about the second most important piece of fabric in the club's history - OUR club badge. They then accepted the first design that was put to them...was that because it was all they could afford in rebranding, taking the first one? And TWO people decided on it. The Spitfire looks as if its been squeezed into a sardine tin, that's why it does not represent a Spitfire, the back tail end is longer and narrower, the cockpit is not in the centre of the wings. and the front is much shorter than it should be, its bloody awful to be honest and embarrassing. The Spitfire name is the pride of Eastleigh, part of our history and we fans are rightly proud to have the nickname The Spitfires, suggested by supporter Mike Wimbridge and voted overwhelmingly by the fans. Once more our club has hit the PR disaster button right on the nail. I mentioned the club metal badge of the Spitfire, why was'nt one like that, flying majestically through the clouds put on the badge? I could never wear an Eastleigh Football shirt with a fake spitfire on it, I'd be embarrassed because Eastleigh Airport and the spitfire is very important to me as part of the town's history, Kenny and Tom, in their wisdom have made the club a laughing stock. You might as well ask for a design of a swan and get one looking like a blackbird and be happy with it. Some will say I'm just having another go at the club, but I wear my heart on my sleeve where EFC is concerned, like many, I care about my club and this has really and truly upset me.

goderz3 post with the pics seems to highlight a clear reason why the club might have been keen to change the badge. The Eastleigh coat of arms badge is multicoloured and complex in design. The cost of incorporating that badge into replica kits and other club shop products would therefore be relatively high whether the badge is produced as jacquard or silk screen print. The so called Spitfire image is simple and just blue and white so I would expect it to be much cheaper to produce on the club shop clothing. I have no affinity with the Eastleigh coat of arms as I don't come from or live in Eastleigh but I think as a badge it was one of the most distinctive and admirable in all levels of professional football and it's a shame it's been discarded. If it has to be changed, for whatever reason, the now thousands of fans should have had the opportunity to have their input. I'm not sure what took 9 months to do. The film, however much people like it, seems to be a series of stock clips with a royalties-free music soundtrack and a low budget voice-over. Nothing wrong with that but it's a couple of weeks work max if that. In 9 months there was plenty of time to use the website and social media, plus an email mailing, to invite comments from supporters - eg season ticket holders, TSSC members - on a number of options. If the club were just honest up front and said it needed a simpler badge which was lower cost to produce and offered a few alternatives for comment that could have been done in a couple of months. The new badge is poor I think and SoE has already made that point well but the poorest thing is the way the club has kept the great majority of regular long term supporters in the dark.

Has anyone else contacted Eastleigh Fc on this new chapter? I have, but have had no reply. I have been a season ticket holder for 4 years. Many more of you much longer than this. I understand that we all have an opinion. I understand three chapters. Swaythling Athletic (the Transits) Eastleigh (the Spitfires) Chapter three (the Railwaymen) Only one of the nicknames was chosen by Eastleigh fans via a competition. Surely, more people should be apart of the process of rebranding? So contact Eastleigh fc and discuss how you feel. If we feel that we like the new brand, then so be it. Then make the aeroplane look like a Spitfire. Leeds disapproved of their badge some years ago. It can be done. But at the end of the day, it should go to vote. Proper consultation.

I'm not really fussed about the badge either way, to be honest, but the previous one showed that the club represented the town of Eastleigh, and now it's more focussed on the club and its image/brand. Read into that what you will - a move towards the corporate? Much like many clubs and club badges nowadays. A lot of the players don't come from Eastleigh, either, so it's less of a 'local club' nowadays. One of the consequences of moving up the leagues.
As for the actual aeroplane (I hesitate to say Spitfire), yes, it could have been more lifelike.
I've been a season ticket holder for a few years too but since I don't get involved in running the club, I didn't really expect to be consulted. It might have been nice to have had a competition for the fans to design a badge, however, not to mention it would have been cheaper and would have been a good public relations exercise. As has been pointed out, an opportunity Mr.Donald might not have passed up.

I understand the history of the club and that should never be forgotten and maybe the old badge cloud be used in a more formal capacity, but I do get the reasoning behind this new one. have a look at this link, it gives more detail behind the thinking of the design which I found interesting. www.footballbranddesigner.com/designing-eastleigh-football-clubs-new-logo/As you can see different backgrounds look quite interesting

Here is a link to Twitter mobile.twitter.com/hashtag/TheNewChapter?src=hashtag_clickIt would seem the thinking behind the rebranding. Make of it what you will. Tom Coffey talks about the importance of branding nationally. Whats he on?! Utter rubbish. I don't think anyone cares much about Eastleigh outside of So50. The current badge has been there for 40 years and its just been thrown away without wider and proper consultation. Its been replaced for a fake spitfire that looks more like the angel of the north. The owners talk of a new chapter. Why? There is nothing significant about this year. Its a cheap media stunt that won't pull in more fans it will simply alienate us older fans who huddled in the Ten Acres shed long before football was about bloody branding! Re-brands in football don't work. www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6231138/cardiff-city-owner-vincent-tan-red-shirt/
