I thought I'd seen something about Paul Reid leaving earlier so obviously mistaken. Based on that scenario Callum, he certainly was on a hiding to nothing. I don't think I would be paying £37m or even £37. There seems no way to get a return from the stadium at the moment and there's not a lot of TV money in League 1 so the cash is safer sitting in the bank.

SD answer to that is, that's what he's put into the club, he's reduced the seasonal debt from £30m a year to £5m a year so it's a better proposition for aj investor. I think Sunderland will be lucky to get another owner like SD, the team have failed him on the pitch and in my eyes he's made two bad decisions himself, signing Grigg for 4m when he was worth 1m and employing Parkinson as manager but other than that nothing out of the ordinary.

SD took a gamble, he acquired the club through some cute dealing with parachute payments and very little of his own money. He is now hoping to walk away with a pocket full of what was rightfully the club's cash. He never had the type of funds needed to revitalize the club and the supporters are rightly peeved off with the opportunistic gamble he made. He should accept the 16m he has been offered and let the club move on from yet another disastrous ownership.

He seems to have had the club up for sale for about half his time at sunderland, if not more. Still now he is gone as chairman, maybe he is finally on his way.
would love to have him back at EFC, finish the job he started

He’s a good and honest guy who has a genuine love of Eastleigh and he did great things for us albeit with a few mistakes ((which he admitted) but I wouldn’t want him back. We have done well without him and feel that might change if he took control. Just my personal opinion

Be great if Stewart came back but he needs to have a different strategy. Much prefer slow progress with being these younger players in or through the youth system. Feel that the club will gain more of an identity rather than has berms who are past it on ridiculous salaries. Best signings over last three to four seasons has been younger hungry players like smart, miley, Atkinson etc much prefer these players to Ngala stack cureton. Hoping for a new keeper to come in soon.

What I think the best policy regarding bringing in new players is
1) Do not have a revolving door approach with players continually coming and going as that does not usually result in a settled side.
2) Signing players who do well against us is not always the best policy. Alex Haddow, Will Hendry, Moses Ademola, Marvin Williams and Daryl McMahon are examples of this and most of them were at the club for less than half a season and there are other cases I can find.
3) Be careful about signing players from the North who would have to relocate and might not settle in the area. Adam Dawson and Adam Dugdale both ended up returning north for family reasons. I think that when Richard Hill returned to the club he realised this.
4) Look at which previous signings have worked well and I would say that David Hughes, Andy Forbes, Michael Green, Jai Reason, Glen Southam and Ben Strevens were good acquisitions. All played in a promotion winning team during their time at the club and were amongst the best players in the team for a period of two years or more. The first three had previously played for Hampshire clubs and the other three had played regularly and given solid service to clubs they had previously represented.
5) It is good to have a balance between youth and experience, although I would say that I would be careful at signing players aged 35 and over. It is good to see younger players like Miley, Smart, Atkinson and Bearwish come in as I personally think that previous managers Ian Baird and Richard Hill were reluctant to blood youth even if both of them did a reasonable job overall.

Largely agree with this.
just as an aside its quite interesting to note that the spine of our conference South title winning squad were all 29-33
Flitney, Todd, Beckwith, Collins, Southam, Strevens, McAllister

There was also I believe players 25 and under at the time in the squad such as Jai Reason, Michael Green, Will Evans, Ben Wright, Dan Spence and Dan Wishart.
The club had just gone full time and thus were probably able to attract a diffedrenjt

The club had just gone full time and thus were probably able to attract a different type of player to previously. Also I think that some of the players had played together at previous clubs which probably helped.
