Fair play to them. They have much to gain from PPG now. Only natural any club would look after its own interests.

The H&W arguments seem generally like sound reasoning to me. The issues around promotion and league championships are easier though than relegation. It should not be a stretch even for the FA and/or the respective leagues to come up with an algorithm which identifies some clubs for relegation but allows others in the relegation zone to stay up, if they stop the league now without any further games. This could be based on the number of points those clubs were adrift from safety and their recent form at the time the season was put on hold. Any club judged to have had a more than evens chance of staying up would be allowed to do so and the number of ups and downs would probably be restricted to one or two per league. It might be the most equitable process but is unlikely to happen from a PR point of view because the media would probably murder it for being "too complex".
The lost revenue is a separate but important issue and I think should be dealt with as such. It's looking increasingly unlikely that anyone will be allowed to play in front of supporters this side of next season so trying to play the remaining games won't be likely to mitigate clubs' losses and could even add to them. Lower league and non league clubs are perfectly in order to use the furlough plus any of the various business related reliefs on offer from the government as a first step. The excellent suggestion someone already made of early season ticket sales could be a next step and the FA and the super rich PFA could stump up a few bob.
Finally I would be wanting to look at what Germany and France are doing across their leagues as there's no shame in looking around for any good ideas that might be implemented elsewhere.

If promotion and relegation were to be part of the equation then it should be possible to promote more than relegate. As I said at the lower levels there is likely to be some natural wastage. The situation with Jersey Bulls has been discussed on here, but they could be promoted if instead of splitting the divisions 21 and 20 as they did last season the Combined Counties League could split it 22 and 19.
I think that if play does resume players would need time to regain fitness and may have to pay money to extend players contracts and would probably be several weeks before they started to recoup this money which certainly does not make the cash flow situation easy to manage.

Surely, there wouldn't be one rule for the Premier League and leagues from step 3 non-league onwards? He says with tongue firmly planted in cheek. The decision by the FA to abandon step 3 and work night and day to find a way to complete the PL: behind closed doors/by June 30/scrub that - make it anytime, should tell you all you need to know. I think the PL and their cynical money grabbing has bred cynics in most of us.

They are voting on whether the national league is to be finished or not at the moment. A slightly daft vote IMO as whatever way it goes it poses more questions which are really part of the "how do we end the season" scenario.
Agree with much of the H&W post, although it does come across as a "we are second, can we have promotion please?" message. Don't really see how that can happen, as who would be relegated from the national league? Chorley might accept it, but I doubt anyone else would.
I quite like the idea of finishing the season with 3/4 matches in a couple of weeks, but no idea how that would work in practice. It sort of seems like voiding the season is becoming inevitable with perhaps the odd "promotion" for clubs through Bury/teams withdrawing. Though will any teams withdraw from the national league or national north/south? I would have thought not.
The PL will find their own solution, but its worth bearing in mind that the Euros are sceduled for June 2021, so the 2020-2021 season will (presumably) finish in May. So to finish this season and complete a full season next, looks like a tall order. But the sheer £££ could mean it will happen. The worldwide TV & media deal for the premier league is worth a something like £3 Billion a year & as ever money talks.

Can't see now, on 20th April with the country still in "lockdown" (sort of), that there is any option other than to call the season finished at all levels.
Looking at it from a player point of view, you can't play football with social distancing. Playing football for 90 minutes therefore involves some risk of ending up in intensive care.
It will be interesting to see how the clubs at top level use the situation to try to leverage player wage cuts before they officially announce the season over.

I do not think it is unreasonable to treat part-time players in lower leagues differently from Premier League players. Interestingly enough players in the former category often have a more congested end of season, and I do wonder whether the TV money is an important motivating factor for the Premier League clubs.
I did suggest making the Premiership a 22 club division for one season and thus allowing two more promotions into non-league step 2.
There is clearly no perfect solution here and the three possible scenarios of a) Completing the 2019/20 season b) Voiding the 2019/20 season and c) Determining promotion on a points per game basis all have their supporters. What I do think though is that social distancing will be part of our lives for a few more weeks.

There are strong rumours that Sky, BT, Amazon will not activate the clauses for reimbursement of money paid in advance due to the season ending incomplete. This I suspect will allow the season to be declared null and void right across the entire football pyramid, already done for most non league anyway. The television companies will get a reduction in the new deals to the precise amount they were entitled to under the clauses. When you consider what this pandemic has done in every walk of business life as well as human life, we all know life as we knew it will be gone forever. Football clubs will adjust, the days of transfer fees in excess of £100million are unlikely, players earning a hundred thousand a week will disappear, possibly £250,000 a month will be the maximum, £3million a year before tax. That's the ideal scenario but to make it happen clubs must accept low television deals because if they remain high, then players will want their greed to continue as well. Television deals allowed players wages to explode out of control, the very top players picking up a lottery size jackpot every month that the vast majority can only dream about. It's reported the Arsenal player, Ozil has refused to accept a pay cut on his wages of £350k a week, what a selfish bastard, people are dying, people will be losing their jobs, he will regret his attitude whenever he steps onto a football pitch in future. As I write this, UEFA have just announced this football season must conclude by the end of August. That only works if UEFA scrap Euro 2020 which is due to be played next summer, to allow all leagues to restart next season in October and run to the end of May. If all football is null and void this season there can be no champions league, uefa league tournaments next season, if all national associations were told not to run their FA Cups as well, then the leagues can finish in time to allow the Euro 2020, but they can't have it all. The welfare of the players has to be considered too, they aren't robots. All of this is at the very top of the game, but it is the only answer for ALL football. I felt every league should have concluded even if taking til October or November this year but realistically it has to get back on track to begin the new season on schedule in August. So for me...NULL AND VOID every league in Europe at EVERY Level.

We were told yesterday that social distancing will remain for the remainder of this year at least by the government....no football then until at least January...might as well declare next season null and void now then cos you aren't gonna play a season in 18 weeks or so.

Likely that as many as half of the clubs in the three National Leagues and Step 3 will fold. Without gate income and with social events cancelled for another 6+ months plus the loss of sponsorship only the strong will still be there for 21/22.

I doubt any spectator sport will take place this year now. I can't see how Eastleigh Fc will continue as a professional football club. At best it will go back to being semi-professional or amateur. The football bubble will now burst but at the top that's not a bad thing. The obscene millions paid to the top stars has to end.

Do we know for sure what’s happening with this? Seems things have been left a bit up in the air. There was talk of playoffs but surely that is not happening now? What about promotion and relegation?
