Does this game take on a bit of extra significance after a couple of league defeats?
Think the trophy could be our chance to get some tangible success from this season.

Not to mention a decent additional cash return to add to the FA Cup prize/TV money. Winner of the FAT walks away with a near 6-figure total in prize money.

Picked up our tickets for the FAT game at Lunchtime. Apparently the club got a referee in this morning and the pitch passed inspection despite yesterday's monsoon. No more heavy rain forecast.

I would not have thought there has not been much rain this week, with most of it in fairly small bursts.

Not a vintage performance today in difficult conditions. The way the pitch was cutting up and with the rain forecast this week touch and go as to whether next week's game will be on.

"The way the pitch was cutting up and with the rain forecast this week touch and go as to whether next week's game will be on."
The level of water in the drains around the ground and especially in the Monks Brook itself (across the link road) suggests that the ground water level remains very high even after a week of not particularly high rainfall.

I believe that Eastleigh are one of eight National League teams through to the last 16 and there could be three more depending on the results of replays.
I see that on the official website the away match to Chorley originally scheduled for 8th February, the date of the next round of the F A Trophy has already been moved to the list of the matches that require arranging.
It also appears from this website that the Hampshire Senior Cup tie at Bashley is being played this Tuesday and the home match with Aldershot is being played on 28th January.

Given the weather forecast I think the Bashley game must be in doubt, but yes Malc you are correct.

Happy to get a win, sounds like we just scraped through in the end, having been pegged back to 2-1 and then missing a pen.
Crowd was over double that of the last round, not bad.
Draw for the next round tomorrow I presume

I think saying we scraped through is unfair. We were in control for most of the game. Their goal came from a sloppy mistake whereas our two were well worked and both quality finishes. Great to see more youth out on the pitch. And credit to the Matlock fans who gave an impressive 12th Man performance.
