I will turn up on opening day of the season as keen as ever. Another season in the top-flight, 1500 to 2000 there with me roaring the Spitfires on.
Twenty odd years ago I was at the Ten Acres - less than 100 there on New Years Day for a match against Bournemouth (Poppies) FC in the Wessex League. No cover anywhere on the ground except for the clubhouse and the small wooden stand on the halfway line. A pitch that even the local rugby side wouldn't want to play on.
We've just had our best season in the NL -a penalty kick away from Wembley yet to read some comments you'd think we were facing a season in the Hampshire League. It may be a very different side that we turn out in August but I haven't been looking forward to next season this much in years.

Taylov. You are the sort of bloke we need more of down at Ten Acres. God bless you.

Well at least we have some announcements on Twitter today - and a new signing (see 'Players' thread).
In fact the new signing would probably link up well with Mark Yeates...

Reckon rendall would thrive in the box get on the end of Yates crosses. Feel we need a bit of pace on the flanks and up top.

I think with the quoted figures for the turnover I expect that there are significant overhead costs associated with this and there are also a lot of people who spend reasonable money on corporate hospitality who are not interested in the football side of things.
I think that if as seems likely money will be tighter in future then I think two things need to be addressed 1) Developing a better youth policy and 2) Attracting people with a loyalty to the club.
With respect to 1) I think Stewart's approach was that we could develop a youth policy as a football league club and with respect to 2) I would say that David Hughes, Craig McAllister, Andy Forbes and Michael Green had a great affinity for the club which shone through, but although a lot of players have begun their association with the club in the last seven years would be classed in the same category. Still the fact that some players are signing up for the third successive season suggests things might be improving in that direction.
I find it puzzling how some people regard Solihull Moors. Is not to finish second in this league with a relatively small budget something we all want to be able to achieve especially as it indicates that the players are not entirely motivated by money. I also think that in the past we have recruited players from higher level teams that they wanted to keep.

We have just had a good season and probably better than most peoples predictions. It must be soul destroying for the management to read some of the posts I see on here. When Mc Callum came to us he had a pretty poor goal scoring record but last season he did well--but without the service he got he would have got very few goals. I think with Yeatsey the chance to be 3 hours nearer home is a massive factor and no amount of money from us would over ride that.Every season is a challenge==few clubs at this level retain players for long. The management last year made some good choices and there is no doubt that many of the players who hadnt performed well the year before improved this last year. The management have to take credit for that. How quickly the season has been forgotten. If we had been promoted how many of the players would have remained. Not many I expect. So then they would also have been criticised. It would be madness for the management to publicise their targets as that just pushes up prices. Many signings are near the end of the football league transfer period when they are trying to send players out on loan. Its also easy to forget that management need time with their families to.They dont really have a 'closed' season. As for mid table mediocre I dont like that view. The difference between the teams in this league isn't huge. Fortunes can change very quick. look at the records of both Ebbsfleet and Solihull these last 2 seasons.I enjoy my football--I don't aim for any position other than top at the start. I don't write my team off until I see how they play but with suspensions and injuries taking their toll you simply can't predict who will come top.

There is nothing official yet so right now he has been offered a deal and that has not been accepted or rejected

OK, so our Twitter now reports that Mark Yeates has signed for AFC Fylde, and he's posted a farewell message. I stand by my comments earlier on in the thread - it's a big blow to us, as he was our main creative player last season, and when he wasn't firing, sometimes we looked lost.
Jack Payne is a good signing - he's not the same type of player as Mark but he seemed pretty creative, with good long passing, so it's a start. AFC Fylde had a brilliant season last year to follow up a very good one the season before, and were unlucky not to go into the FL. I saw them win the FA Trophy at Wembley (they were very good) and I'm not really sure where Mark will fit in the team - his experience will be very useful, but I wonder whether he'll play regularly. The chance to be nearer his family is also a big factor, and who can blame him. His new club need to keep up the momentum, but now that neighbours Blackpool have ditched the Oystons and have got their club back, I wonder if the Tangerine resurgance will take a bit away from Fylde. I felt that I may have seen them at their zenith.
Either way I'd probably regard the move as a step up for him, and a decent challenge (I'm sure he's getting well-paid for it) - so good luck Mark, and thanks for the memories!

I think last season MY was excellent. I suspect however he won't be a regular with Fylde, and if he isn't, I think he will be a lot less effective. I think last season, might have been his last really strong one. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't move into coaching or managing one of the younger teams. Given his probable salary, probably a good time to say goodbye.

It is interesting to note that Eastleigh is Mark Yeates's 14th club and in only two of the others he has made more than the 66 appearances that he made for Eastleigh. I think that geographically AFC Fylde is an attractive option for him.

Would like him to have signed, but at 34 agree that he might just have had his best years behind him, so in hindsight now might have been a good time to see him depart anyway.
Funny enough I sort of think the same about Paul McCallum. Not quite sure why. I guess looking back to his record to 2012 he has only ever managed 8 goals per league season (bar last season of course)
