For once (in a blue moon), Horsey makes a half-decent point. I may be wrong, but I've seen nothing to suggest that there was any planning in place for a time when SD left. In the over 6 years of his reign, it was always one man's decisions that set the direction (off and on the pitch).

One (or SD) could argue that a succession plan was in place, i.e.4 people already at the club, and totally trusted by him, would take over while he was at SAFC. Maybe he always had a plan to turn Sunderland around, sell at a profit & return to little Eastleigh to settle unfinished business. Who knows? Anyway, unfortunately Mark has had to leave due to ill health, JS...... we don't know the reason but she is still involved & Alan Harding suggestes he'll still be around. Let's see what happens, but I don't subscribe to everything being all doom & gloom atm. Have a feeling there could be some interesting news in the next few weeks, maybe.

One of the vital things that was mooted for some time before it actually happened (Nov 2017) was the converting of SDs several million pound loan to Eastleigh FC to equity in the club. So the club was left without any debt (not even "friendly" debt), decent facilities for this level, a core fan base of 1000+ and an established position in the national league.
I realise there were some downsides (notably some over-enthusiast -shall we say?- contracts handed out by SD in his last couple of years here) but all in all I think things were left in a pretty reasonable state. I think a lot of clubs changing chairman & ownership would have loved to be in the position of Eastleigh FC. As mentioned earlier in the thread, football history is littered with clubs whose ownership has changed and it has impacted massively on the football club. In the last two seasons we have come 14th & 16th in this league, I'm optimistic we'll beat both of those finishes!
That sad it does appear that Eastleigh FC is in a bit of a "whats next" state at the moment both on and off the field. Before the game in the exec club, Kenny said the chairman issue would be resolved in the next few weeks, and also spoke about the manager situation. IIRC he said we have had between 75-100 candidates with the majority credible candidates. Applications are open until Friday !9th Oct, so it does seem Ben Strevens will be in charge for next weeks FA Cup game.
