"Eastleigh begin their pre-season match schedule away at Basingstoke Town this evening"
Not much of a schedule left - Basingstoke and Alton away confirmed and Sheffield United still on (at present).

The immediate words that come to mind are shambles, tinpot, laughing stock, amateurish & embarrassment. And I have to say it's all down to penny pinching early closed season. Yes, the old surface needed to be dug up and drainage sorted in the south west corner, but there have also been lots of other areas that became waterlogged too easily.
Then, from what I saw, the surface wasn't levelled properly before the grass seed was, planted or just scattered? End of May after rain (with plenty of puddles) it looked terrible, as if the old surface had just been dug up & left. Just 3 weeks ago I thought "there's no way that pitch is going to be ready for the friendlies".
So a last minute, desperate decision was made to re-turf it & the club chose to believe the spin of the company doing the work that it would be ready to play on immediately!
At the moment I am very disappointed with this debacle & can only think that the club, despite all the many positives is not being run as well as many people think.
Let's not even mention the possibility of promotion this season. The club is nowhere near ready for it yet.

Got to say it's such a shame, fir all the hard work, deep down I didn't think the pitch would be ready and that's not being wise after the event, a plan b was hastily arranged re turf but just not long enough to bed in despite people saying it is lovely, well it's clearly not the case , the sheff Utd game is the target now, I think it will be perfect by then, it will in the end prove to be a great pitch, we just ran out of time. At least it will give us time to finish the stand down the side as I would rather have visitors seeing it completed than half done.

An absolute shambles and a PR disaster for a club suggesting it wants to be in the football league. I had hoped the circus had finished at the end of last season.

I said last season that I couldn't see the point of all this executive/sherwoods/new clubhouse malarkey when we were crying out for a new pitch. We had far too many games cancelled last season and it doesn't take a genius to realise where the money should be spent and now because of the ONGOING pitch issues we're having to cancel games already!!

It's certainly not down to 'penny pinching' nobad, but the money does not seem to have been directed to the place it was most needed, still we now have a pitch and no games :-) Roll on the 8th August and we can start talking about the real thing

I would suggest if the club had brought in a local farmer (well not all, but one or two selected) he/she would have done a better job in preparing & planting the surface than those charged to do so by the club.

With the focus on the restaurant don't go giving them ideas for other uses for the pitch. A farmer might just be the solution for locally sourced produce.
