3-4 players under contract are injury prone and Hill has always preferred older/experienced players.
Constable's work rate is up there at the top but goals is what he should be based on and that has been well below par! Either way I always knew he would be offered a new deal

Has constable got some kind of 'hold' over the club? How on earth can you offer an ageing, ineffective non scorer a new contract? Couldn't make it up.

Well, the club have offered him a new contract but it could be for just a year and for less money than he's been on to date. For the right money he could be vfm.
Where's SOE for his comments on Beano? Come on Keith, tell us what you think.

The average age of this squad must be over 30. No pace, no creativity and no goals, things can only get better!!

It's very, very early days in building a squad for next season. I too am little surprised Constable and Macalister are being offered contracts. I don't think either can contribute to a promotion challenging front line. It is early days though and I am sure other exciting signings will follow. However, it is my long held suspicion that the financial clout needed to get us in to the football league is not quite there. We sold some fabulous talent this year with the mantra that 'we can't stand in their way.' This was not the body language of a club fully capable and confident of league football. I believe we will compete well next season but this season has provided a healthy dose of realism for me. We'll just have to wait and see.

We sold some fabulous talent this year Partington and Mandron get them back! Mandron not been given the chance at wigan imo was to much of a jump back up and Partington was in the b.rovers team when he first moved but seemed to fade out! Any chance?

To be fair to Joe, he'd not been at Bristol Rovers for long before he had to come off with a hamstring injury within 15 mins at the start of one of their matches. It's been quite a long recovery but I do think he and Luke stand more chance of success in league football than Mandron does.

It may be worth mentioning that although he has been in and out of the side recently James Constable has a good scoring record under Richard Hill.

Far too many people jumping the gun here. None of us are in possession of the full facts. We don't know who is being kept for a coaching, back up role, and we are to some degree limited by what we can and can't do as a result of pre existing agreements/contracts. We will not be back for pre season training for several weeks, look at the state of the squad then. I suspect the retained list will look very different then.

That may be true Malcy but it was three years ago. Possibly the new contract beano has is as an impact player because it surely speaks volumes that RH brought back Macca and Tubbs. I'm confident three strikers will be signed over the summer so there is no need to debate this particular issue. All of us have to trust RH to get it right. He will have his reasons why he believes Beano can do a job for him and his views are the only one that matter.
Song for Beano's season!!!!! (Tune...On the first day of Christmas)
5 Golden Goals 4 Free Kicks 3 Corner Kicks 2 Penalties And a goal off his backside.
Smile....its not the end of the world people.

Looks to me as if the position with the forwards is the 'big strong striker who can hold it up, playing with a more mobile striker who can score goals' scenario, which RH and some of our other managers seem to have preferred. Lincoln's plan A last year was based on that, too - Rhead, with Arnold and others. Mind you, Rhead scored more goals himself than our big strikers... Lincoln also had two central defenders who were very dangerous at set pieces, Cowley got them involved at every opportunity. We can do that with Reda, Ayo.....
If what I've said is true then he obviously sees Beano and Macca as still capable of fulfilling the former role, whereas he doesn't see Tubbs and Wilson as fulfilling the latter role. Therefore we're on the search for replacements for those two. Plus maybe a different type of striker for a plan B. On problem is that I've seen Beano in that role with several partners over the years, and only on very few occasions has that partnership actually worked well. It's happened so many times that I wonder whether that's due to the partners, or due to Beano?
Mandron was a bit different, which worked well as an alternative, although I think he was a bit overrrated. Angol played the same role for Lincoln when he came in.

I think that Constable's best spell at the club was 1.5 years ago when he scored 6 goals in the first 7 games of last season 5 of which were won and 2 drawn.
I also think he is a better club man than some which may not count for much in some people's eyes, but I personally think that how players integrate with each other off the field as well as on it as an important part of the process.

I for one I'm glad James Constable has been offered a new contract. His work rate on the pitch is second to none. During the latter games of the season, such as North Ferriby and Solihull away, he was still putting in a shift right to the end!. Unlike plenty of others. With James Constable you know what you are going to get every game, effort and commitment. Yes the goals are not as frequent as before, but James Constable is playing a similar role as to Wayne Rooney at Manchester United. Still only 32 and can offer some more for Eastleigh going forward. Whilst overall this season our goals scored were the fewest in the three years in the National League, we conceded the most in that time !. Like Lincoln City they only scored the third most goals in the league, behind Forest Green and Dover, and conceded the second least behind Tranmere. Therefore like the majority of posts on here are about the forward line, lets not forget and focus that the defence needs looking at as well !.
