I think you are perhaps not allowing for the wind, which especially in the first half was very very strong.

Difficult conditions for both sides, the onus really was on Gateshead, needing 3 pts more than us, but I thought that with a little more luck we could have nicked the game. Gateshead only really looked like they wanted it more in the last 15mins but we defended well to get a well deserved point which the majority of us would have taken before the game. Yeah, not the greatest of games, but we now look a decent team.

Not much to add to this, the teams were evenly matched, the first half was pretty dire to watch. The wind may have had some effect but I think the sides just cancelled each other out.
Gateshead scored with their first effort on goal, a good shot, but the ball seemed to bounce over Stack, it looked like it hit a rut. That penalty area was in poor condition, as usual.
Not sure why they were complaining about the equaliser - was Ayo offside? The only person he seemed to barge out of the way was Burge.
After that they looked more threatening but we could have won it right at the end - Macca's pass not quite good enough for Wilson to take it cleanly.
A decent performance by the whole team against one of the in-form sides in the division, who probably weren't as good as usual today.

It felt as though we had the majority of possession, Gateshead definitely struggled to play passing football on a bobbly pitch - overall, we were good for a point against a team that are definitely a step ahead of us at the moment. Disappointed with some inconsistent use of cautioning by the Ref - backchat got JC a yellow, yet one or two of their players were 'similar' in their vocal approach to the Ref, yet seemed to get away with a tap on the shoulder and told 'not to be naughty' ! Egotistical Refs, not my cup of tea 😞

I never see the logic in starting with Beano, he can't score for toffee but he knows how to pick up yellows.....has he got enough to be suspended :-) He is really nothing but an impact player now...if that!!! Overall the team looked tired but that is down to heavy training sessions I believe, plus three matches in a week. They've got the points in the bag to keep us safe so no real complaints though I thought we were slow to close down the goal bound shot from Gateshead...tiredness I guess. Tremendous response though to be level in a couple of minutes. Anyone else notice that at 3-05 RH went and sat up in the stand for about 15 minutes? He spent a lot of time in the dugout, and even a couple of times when down the tunnel....all the while leaving his assistant to get on with it. Is that a big hint to the new manager? That RH is going to be DoF?
In January there was a half term report in The Non League Paper from their respected journalists on the teams in the National League and one of the questions was, 'What has gone wrong at Eastleigh given they have the biggest budget' To a man they all agreed it was a mistake to begin the season with an inexperienced manager, you can't win promotion at this level without experience. Chris Todd will be successful but Eastleigh was the wrong starting point, learn the trade lower down then come prove people wrong. Are we about to do this again?
Very few players walk into a big job straight away, Kenny Dalglish comes to mind but he didn't take over a Ford engine, he took over a Ferrari and just steered it along. In our league, with our budget, Eastleigh is the big job.....if you're going to give it to an inexperienced manager you are basically giving him 12 months or less, depending how it goes. With an experienced manager I believe you will be given two full seasons....that's the difference in my view. Going to be interesting to see how things develop.

I don't think it makes any difference if you go experienced or take a punt on an inexperienced manager. The one thing you have to do is make up your mind and support that person. I think the problems we have faced this season are down to, what seems to me, very rushed decisions at every stage.
I think if we had given CT this season and provided the support he needed, maybe RH as dof, we would have ended up where we are and he would now have a season and a half of experience.
Not saying that guarantees he was the man for the job but that is where we would be.
Instead we are starting again and thinking along the lines of a good young manager. So perhaps we also need to be thinking mid table next season to gain experience.
Deja Vu all over again.
