In Swaythling. A mile from the ground 2C forecast to rise to 6. Garden hardish underfoot, but nothing more. Baffled to be honest. Ordinary winter weather, back in the 60's, 70's, 80's it wouldn't have occurred to anyone it was other than on. Is this all to do with insurance, liability or what?

Presumably it's because Macc have a 4-hour journey and they want to give them as much notice as possible.
Fog has cleared, as you say forecast is for temperature to rise. If we'd had a pitch inspection at lunchtime we might have had a chance. But apparently it's been frozen for a few days, so it would take a little while to thaw. Are there any particularly shaded areas that make it hard to get any sun on it?
Macc are also in the Trophy on 4th Feb, so we can't play them then (Braintree match also off for that reason). Maybe another blank Saturday looms.... Not sure if the next Macc date will also be a free game, and therefore do we have to have it on a Tuesday again?

Interesting to note that Sholing's pitch was frozen on Saturday - match off - whereas it's playable tonight for their match v Alresford, according to their Twitter.
EDIT: it's just been called off, about 40 mins before kick-off, because of fog!

I suppose the early call was made to stop Macclesfield having a wasted journey. Nothing on our website to say match off though. Considering its(was) a free game you may have new fans coming who will only looked at our website to check the status of the game and turn up tonight and wonder why the game is off.

You should make it clear that 'now on' means on the website, rather than leading folk to initially think that the ref changed his mind!!

I notice both clubs are free on the 7th February (which suits me for purely selfish reasons, as Eastleigh is much easier to get to than Salisbury vs Winchester)

Nice to see you on here as I believe I know you. I think one point is that Macclesfield are in F A trophy action on 4th February and if they draw the replay would have to be on the midweek immediately following.

Quite like the idea of a game being called off and then back on again a few hours later!
In my minds eye I can see the Macclesfield team coach going backwards and forwards along the motorway to the benny hill music :0)
