Uninspiring home fixtures but then it's only pre-season.

Piss poor if you ask me only 2 saterday fixtures and only 3 home fixtures looks like it's all for the jolly boys outing for the ones that can afford to go to Scotland not good for the average fan

Not sure when pre season friendlies became something for the fans, surely they are there to get the team in the right position for when the real action starts.
I know it's what forums were invented for but the sense of entitlement and the world revolving around individuals on here really does take some beating......

I know it's what forums were invented for but the sense of entitlement and the world revolving around individuals on here really does take some beating...... That's the modern world for you and not just reserved for football forums. I am sure anyone working in public services will recognise this. Anyway, I agree pre-season friendlies are all about the team getting fit. However, I also think fans hope to watch their team play someone 'bigger' or interesting. It's a good way to attract new or neutral fans. I don't think any of the fixtures capture the imagination but I am not going to lose sleep over it.

Westend I'm not asking the club to revolve around me I have been going to pre season friendlies for years pal and they all have been reachable for the fans both price and location I think going to Scotland is a bit to much for the (average fan) ie not just me you plank

Its all about preparation for the new season. If we hit the ground running in August, I couldn't care less where the friendlies are. They could play them in Outer Mongolia for all I would care.

No home games until July 22nd, which hopefully gives us a bit more time to prepare the pitch even more thoroughly.
Apart from the fitness/team building/practice which I agree are the main point of friendlies, surely the other point is to showcase the new squad and facilities, not just to existing supporters, but also to potential new ones? If people come to a pre-season game against a crowd-puller, like what they see, maybe they'll come back again. I'm sure the Bolton game helped increase our fan base.
I don't therefore have a problem with a few away games first, some local, some not. A lot of 'big' teams have a tour of some sort. Seems like a good idea to me. As for the home games.... a team from the league below AT HOME seems a bit strange, but Barnet (again) and Northampton (who have just won the league we aspire to) are OK. It would have been nice to have had a bigger team on the Saturday to do the showcasing I mentioned above - maybe Swansea, with CT's connections? But it's OK.
I must admit I liked the 4-game pre-season package against league teams that we had in the last two seasons. But now we're bigger, other teams may want to see us too!
Personally I may take in the Northampton game, if I'm around, but that's probably it.
One other thought: I wonder if the idea's been considered of having a pre-season game as the climax to our Fun Day? My favourite German team does a similar thing, the entertainment, followed by a 'meet the squad' session where they're all introduced individually, followed by a match against decent opposition.

The Scottish games give the manager time to take the whole team away and acheive a whole lot more team building wise then if they were going home every night. I'll get back to my carpentry!

Like the idea of Stoneham away first up, should be a fair few spitfires there for that one.
Poole at home is a bit of a strange one IMO but I'm sure spl Hamilton are thinking Eastleigh at home is a bit odd as well!
Nearly 2 months till the proper stuff begins

Fair play to anyone who goes to the games up in Scotland. I think Barnet and Northampton look like decent fixtures. Drive past the sign for AFC Stoneham almost every day but have never seen them play before....

Don't blame AFC Stoneham for putting up their prices so long as they've had assurances that we will be sending the first team squad. I'll be very happy to contribute to a big gate (for them) to give their finances a good boost, but for £7 I'd expect to see the full squad with all the new players so I can make a start in identifying them. Looking forward to it. Just hope there is no chance of England being on the box that night.

I'm sure we would send a strong team to our first friendly.
I see there have been some reservations elsewhere re the £7 price which I kind of share but then at the end if the day it is only one game and it's still under half price of a usual game in our league.

Adult prices were £5 for AFC Stoneham home games last season and a programme is £1.50, the price for the friendly is £7 including a programme, so only 50p more. Hopefully we will get to see our new players, plus, it's helping a local side, so I'm definitely going!
