So there we have it, the end of the dream for this season,
Didn't really do a lot going forwards against a well organised tranmere side. Probably a fair result overall with tranmere having a few chances.
Of course we had our own chance with jai on about 75 mins but it was not to be.
Probably a game that typifies the season (or at least the later part), just not good enough for the top 5 this time out.
August seems a long, long time away!

Got what we deserved today. Nothing. Good luck to Tranmere and Braintree. We've not done enough to deserve the play-offs and today was typical of our form since.........January?

We played this as I thought we would. We tried to be compact, to squeeze the life out of the game and then as the game wore on we wanted to introduce pace and hope we could sneak it. The injuries and enforced substitutions hurt us, but it did almost work. With about 15 left Yemi had that chance, and you knew then that our one chance had to be taken and it wasn't and the rest...Truth is Tranmere were the better side. Look at the stats and they tell you that possession was 50-50: they don't tell you that in the first hour especially Tranmere had the meaningful possession. The stats also tell you that we won the shot count 12-4, but they don't tell you the Tranmere keeper had barely a shot to save. I think we have had a good season, but we have flattered to deceive.
I see a major clear out now and expect few of the current players to still be her come pre season. I think CT has done okay, and certainly done his CV no harm at all. I would like to see an experienced man now brought in who is familiar with our league, the one above and the two below. Get him in early. The work to improve on this season needs to start in earnest soon. If we are serious about winning the league next year, we have a great deal of work to do.
Some may accuse me of acting with indecent haste. I am not really interested in decency; I want a better EFC for 2016-17.

Ive gone on record to say I like Burr, the same manager we were denied permission to speak to I believe, and is now out of work after being let go at Chester. I do agree though that its about time we took the same approach with a manager as we have with players. Young exciting manager below who will be highly sort after, or a manager who has already managed above. My opinion remains the same. Its about the style, not just the result.

I was impressed with Tranmere today, both on the pitch and their great support. Second only to Grimsby this season.
Their style is also more like a League 2 club than a National League club. Not surprised they are unbeaten away since November. Can't see why their home results are so poor. They will be near the top, if not top, next season.
We were second best today - worked hard, could have got a draw, the winning goal was disappointing to concede. A strong ref was needed today, we didn't get one - it was very physical, there was some play-acting and whinging. I think Tranmere remembered our win at Prenton. As I've said on another thread, there is still a slim chance of the playoffs, but the overall feeling after today was that it isn't going to happen. Expectations will be a lot greater next season.

It is mathematically possible to be in the play offs but the season is over. Listening to Todd after the game you sensed that from him too. Credit to the Tranmere they were a decent team and pinched a winner. We offered virtually nothing in attack all day. Without Constable there was no threat. When Midson was withdrawn in the second half I felt we would concede possession and go on to lose. I know it has been much debated on here but Tubbs has been a dreadfully disappointing signing.Tood's January business was poor. This team are good but not promotion material. We've only played well in patches during 2016 and I don't think we have really moved on much after Hill. In particular we have not found a decent replacement for Macallister. Time for a clear out and a fresh approach. The club have moved forward hugely off the field and it was another great crowd today. The future is still very bright and I am looking forward to the summer.

"My opinion remains the same. Its about the style, not just the result." (from SunnySaturdays)
I agree totally and for me Eastleigh FC is all about style, off the pitch as well as on it.
When Richard walked out and Chris Todd picked up the baton we were well adrift. We won a few on the rebound from appointing a new manager and had that epic unprecedented historical Cup run. We were really the talk of the town for weeks.
As a supporter this was fantastic. Out of our view though there were clearly demands in trying to maintain the momentum. Inevitably we saw a dip in form and a popular call for change. It was very satisfying therefore to see the turn round in form and results which saw us challenging for a play off place when our chances had been written off by some as a failure.
Today we saw a Tranmere dugout awash with trainers and physios and hardly any room for the subs. In our case the club has tried to bring in resources but without the luxury of time to choose carefully. Overall there have been incremental improvements - hence the plaudits for the goalkeeping coaching for example. We have though been found out because we don't have a squad with enough strength in depth to cope with the absences of Constable and Harding and to allow us to rest Drury and Coulson who seemed to be carrying injuries.
In my humble opinion CT has earned the right to be given the chance to establish a playing squad and coaching staff to challenge for the league title next season. He has done as well as anyone could have done with the resources he was left with and was able to cobble together, at the same time as recovering the dire early season situation.
Who knows what the outcome will be but we can only hope.

Not reaching the play offs should be deemed a failure. We couldn't beat Welling in 2 attempts (the second with 10 men under CT) and lost limply at Kidderminster who have both been relegated. We have stumbled on the edge of the PO spots mainly because of other teams form dropping off and not because we have surged to the finishing line. The current squad has fallen short of last season and therefore unless major surgery is taken in the summer we will be short again. CT is a honest hardworking guy, but if it was my money on the table for a rebuild I would be wondering whether he could attract the right players and employ the right tactics to get promotion. The jury IMO is out at present.

Don't want to be the main one calling for change on this forum, but for me the jury has returned the verdict. It is as clear as day to me, we need to get the squad back for pre season in late June, and we need to have a manager in place by the end of May, in fact the sooner the better. I want someone who has a proven track record at this level, not over one season but over several. Next season anything less than a serious title challenge will be seen as failure by many. I do not, with the greatest will in the world see that happening under CT. He has done okay, and I thank him for the job he has done, we do though need a new man. The search starts now.

Toddy has to be given more time to build his own team. We really need to bring the average age of the squad down. Too many times this season we have been hanging onto games near the end or devoid of imagination when trying to get back into matches. Tubbs has to go, hard to see how he scored so many goals as he has in his career. Looks disinterested and unmotivated. Terrible signing. Tranmere deserved their win, great support and wanted to win it. We looked totally flat, it is worrying that we could not be motivated for such a big game. A natural leader and support for Beano is essential for next season.

Amazed that people who have been around the game for years think that by bringing in an experienced manager at this level we will be challenging for the title automatically. In football at any level it seems to me an experienced manager will be someone you could rely on to keep you in the league but getting promoted, from this league in particular, needs a whole lot more. CT has shown enough for me to think he is learning fast and to lead the team to the edge of the play offs shows he is not far off. You need a lot of luck and injuries and suspensions have probably cost us more than anything else this year. Cannot beleive that SD brought him in with anything other than a minimum of an 18 month plan, unless it was clear he couldn't cope at this level, think the recent run shows he can. Looking forward to a summer of exciting signings.

Only Coulson has added something to the team. As mentioned earlier Tubbs in particular has been very disappointing and completely out of form. Was he properly scouted and reviewed as a loan signing? If we are to go for a proper shake up of the team would we be better off with an experienced manager with lots of connections rather than a young manager who is already close to a number of the players in this team?
