Stewart. Are you keeping terracing?

The issue off terracing has already been covered on another thread. It has been stated that at the outset, it's likely that both ends would be standing, so hopefully, yes there will continue to be terracing.

I think how the order to best develop the ground is a bit of a chicken, corn & fox type puzzle! If this goes to plan the ground will be 3 sided (or even 2 sided?) for a little while.
When we were talking about creating one new main stand I think the club would ideally have put it on stoneham way side as a big advert for the club and also would have made traffic issues easier (as sure as we can be more major development to the ground will go hand in hand with us getting vehicle access on the stoneham way side).
However with this 9,000 model surely we wouldn't have a main stand as such. Both sides would be similar with around 2,500-3,000 capacity?
Anyway I guess one of the biggest logistical issues will be the need to have a dressing room during the season so perhaps the new stand to replace the east terrace could house the new changing rooms?!
I guess during the off season we get 3/4 months where there are no competitive games taking place so hopefully this time can be used to do all the stuff that is easier to do in the off season (when 2000 people aren't using the ground 3 times a month). In a perfect world hopefully the moment this season ends (could well be as early as April 23) we will be ready to hit go and be full steam ahead.
Another possible option we have is to move the terracing around during the groundworks (given it was relatively easy to put in in the first place).

Safe standing, not terracing, big difference. You'd normally still get allocated a seat number for safe standing as your suppose to stand in your allocated spot to prevent over crowding, hence safe standing.

I'm sure we will have normal terracing in the new ground.

I'm sure we will have normal terracing in the new ground. That is not what Stewart said as the last fans forum. Don't know if changed since then, but said safe standing.

Any pics I have seen of those "safe standing" standing seats look awful to me. There's likely to be a better atmosphere with conventional terracing, free movement and normal crush barriers.
I have to admit to being curious to find out if and how the new stand will be incorporated into the new stadium.
On another note, having watched a Portuguese Primera Liga match a few weeks ago at the brand new stadium of Club Sport Maritimo in Funchal, Madeira, I notice that the stadium was largely funded by a €12m government investment. As Portugal is virtually bankrupt this money might very well have made its way from the EU. Perhaps we should try and see if we can get them to give us a few bob or euro bobs.

Hopefully, likely, probably. I'll wait for Stewart to tell us.

To be fair, SD made clear at the Forum that the prime concern was to future proof the new ground and make it capable of hosting League football beyond League 2. No point in locking us into conventional terracing only to find the League wants all seating or "safe-standing" 2 or 3 years down the road. The new ground has to be for the 2020's and beyond.

Exactly...think SD said we'd have terracing for a while but eventually as the club progresses seats will have to go in, standing at football matches is becoming very outdated whether we like it or not. And as Tony says, we are approaching 2020 and the old days are long gone.

32 current football league clubs still have terracing & until forced to remove it, will keep it that way..there is overhwelming support for returning to, or retaining terracing among supporters throughout the country. You can have your seats, a lot of still like terracing, you can tell that just by being in the silverlake at kick off.

Bomber, I'm not saying we shouldn't have terracing - I've been a passionate standee (despite my arthritis for the last 10 years) since the 1959 FA Cup Amateur Cup quarter-final at the old Richmond Road ground of Kingstonian FC. BUT there's no point in designing a ground in 2016 that is a copy of a 1959 ground.

I think its a must to have terracing in the ground TBH. It would be massive risk not too, the risk being of alienating some of our fanbase.
From what I've seen "safe standing" is a waste of time. Might as well just have seats as all seater grounds invariably have areas of lots of people standing in the seated areas anyway.
One of the things people like about Eastleigh FC is you can stand at the ground. Currently seating is compulsory in the championship (once you've been there 3 years) & allowed in L1 and L2. As far as I am aware there are no plans from the powers that be to change that. Should we ever reach the championship(!!!) in X decades time then the cost of conversion would be very small in comparison to our finances at that time I would think.
Appreciate the need to "future proof" in case of a change in circumstances, could perhaps have large terrace steps that are ready for seats to put in.
Anyway terracing in the new ground, absolute no brainer IMO

The problem with converting standing areas to seating is that the ground then loses capacity & it's the necessary to build bigger stands with more seating. So future proofing to cope with all eventualities is not always possible. However, that's all very pie in the sky & blind optimism at the moment. One step at a time, as they say.
