He admitted they were cr*p, not sure what else he could say? Many managers wouldn't even do that.
For him, league position may be everything, you don't know what sort of pressure he's under.
As I've said, IMO being in with a chance of the playoffs at this stage is about as good as could be expected, with this squad and given the resources of the other teams.
If the squad's best asset is the defence (it wasn't on Wednesday), the midfield is light in a couple of areas and the forwards even more so, it's not surprising he relies on his defence a lot. We've conceded 10 goals in the last three home games - why? Is this due to a change of style? If so it hasn't worked. Also, why are we so much less effective away?
We don't have a proper playmaker, so when we have played it through the middle, it hasn't gone well apart from against some of the weaker teams. Whitehall is the most creative player and he can't play in midfield and forward at the same time. We don't have an 'enforcer' to protect him anyway. We also don't have any decent set-piece deliverers, with the style we've played we need one. I agree if we're going to play the long ball we need someone who has a good chance of winning it in the air (should have signed Matt Rhead ;-)), we don't have one of those. So many injuries and loanees also don't make for a stable squad to buiild a team around.
Why we haven't addressed these deficiencies, which we've had for a couple of seasons now, I don't know. Whether that's down to the manager, the lack of resources, or what. He's being pragmatic with what he's got. I can't say I've always liked it either, and there are a lot of flaws. but has he been regarded as someone to hold the fort and make us competitive until SD returns in the summer, as is rumoured? If so then he's done his job.
