FA Tweet saying that all games off, including NL.
Won't comment on that, I understand why - but events such as the Romsey Show are still going ahead, and rugby games.... just saying

Really daft decision, what better tribute then all the fans in the respective stadiums being able to show their respects

Or choosing to not pay respects if they do not feel moved by recent events. We do live in a free country after all, apparently.

Whether you agree with this decision or not, I am surprised by the disrespect and unpatriotic comments by some of the posters on this thread. Quite honestly, I think you suck!

It's brought me alot of peace that a woman I never knew is up there with her husband/cousin knowing Eastleigh v Scunthorpe is not being played.
Meanwhile all those staff who missed out on that money that shift would have brought them, and the fans who've paid for travel and will now have to come down midweek, and the hotels and the coach company Scunthorpe would have used. I'm sure theres a magic 'the Queen is dead' money pot the FA have so clubs and staff can make claims to?

Even the Romsey show at Broadlands, the erstwhile home of the late Earl Mountbatten, went ahead as planned yesterday (as mentioned by Paul at start of this thread). Earl Mountbatten was the Queen's cousin and the then Princess Elizabeth spent the first three nights of her honeymoon with Prince Phillip at Broadlands in 1947, as did Charles and Diana 34 years later.
If that very Royalty-connected estate could honour our late Queen by allowing people to be there together, I don't understand the short-sighted knee jerk decision from the various football "authorities" to just cancel everything. They had had plenty of time to think about it but, like most other things they do, there was no advance thought-out strategy. They just effectively panicked. They are too far out of touch with reality to even think about the consequences of their action including those Callum has mentioned and also the obscene waste of food which would have been ordered for match day catering at every level of the game.
The feelings of people who believe in a period of national mourning and who wish to stay away from football at the moment should of course be respected, but they can make their own decisions as to whether they go to the game or not. We don't need those self-important half-wits insulting our intelligence by telling us that we can't play and watch the game if we want to do so.
Just to add to my unpopularity, I also think Charles' first decision as King to make Monday 19th a public holiday is going to cost our already impoverished country billions we don't have. Bad decision.

I went to a gig in Wimborne on Friday evening, having booked B&B for the night. I'd have been extremely miffed if the gig had been called off. As it was, there was a minute's silence before the start and the artist started with a sombre instrumental rather than going straight into the normal set list. Perfect.

Eton v Rossall played yesterday at 2.30. My grandson wasn't allowed to play his first U8 game of the season today. #oneruleforone www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/queen-no-football-eton-private-27962165

Saw that HantsLondoner, laughable. I did like Sheffield International FC day out to a park on Saturday though, a team near me Lower Breck recently had their coach and sub Goalkeeper Josh Livesey pass away suddenly, the funeral was Thursday, the FA and NWCFL stopped them from moving their game on Thursday v AFC Bury otherwise face a hefty fine, so they went to the funeral in the day and the played that night, then sat at home on Saturday.

I think it was the consistency across events that was the problem.
I couldn't go to football this weekend, but I could have gone to rugby, cricket, horse racing, county shows. I know of several groundhoppers going round the pubs instead (I don't have a problem with that, by the way) My grandson couldn't even play his first U8 football match.
The Queens' passing was a national 'event', therefore IMO we needed a 'national' response.
Personally, I think going to an event and showing the appropriate respect and remembrance would have been far better in ALL areas. I think the Queen would also have supported this, judging from her behaviour after past personal and national tragedies.

We wouldn’t have got a national response as that would require the government to have decided on and coordinated it. And they are f’kin useless and barely capable of anything

With my father having been born in the same year as the Queen and knowing that he would have wanted sport to continue and think that based on the number of engagements that the Queen fulfilled in her lifetime I expect that would have been her approach too, I was very disappointed that the game was off and certainly like many others did not like having my plans being disrupted at short notice.
However, looking at the matter objectively and for reasons I could explain, if necessary, with the death only announced at 18.30 on Thursday there was a perfect solution to this issue.
Actually, although cricket, rugby, golf and horse racing ran as normal on the Saturday, all of these sports experienced cancellations on the Friday at less than, 24 hours' notice.
At least moving forward National League teams can resume plating tomorrow, and at least there is a clear directive for the date of the funeral.

FWIW - Horse racing did not go head on Saturday (with the exception of 1 meeting in Leopardstown, Ireland).
