The opening day fixture shows just how far Swaythling Athletic/EFC has come in the last 70-odd years.
Notts County is the first FA Cup winning club we've met in the league (not the first we've played - that was Bolton Wanderers). County won the Cup in 1894, ironically by beating......Bolton Wanderers 4-1.
They played in the old First Division from 1897 to 1920 with just a one year drop to the Second. In all they spent a total of 30 seasons in the top flight, 37 at the second level and 34 in the third level.
When we were formed as Swaythling after the War and playing in the Southampton Senior League, County were in the Third Division South. That's not the biggest gap we've seen....Grimsby Town was a First Division club in 1946/7 !!!

Notts County still owe HM Revenue & Customs about £800,000. Yesterday they got 3-week adjournment but the up-for-sale club will next appear in court on Wednesday, 31 July.
Owner Alan Hardy has said he "will be exchanging contracts with the new owners in the coming days". Potential buyers have three weeks to settle the club's tax debt, with the club otherwise facing administration or liquidation.
