Just back from a packed Hangar. What an emotional afternoon.
Jill and I are so proud of our team and management - the finest season in the 73 years of Swaythling/Eastleigh football - to fall just short after 4 hours and a penalty shoot out of play-off football. You are all superstars.
Well done to everyone associated with the club.

You are right. It was an incredible effort. Amazing. Luke South Wood was sensational. As was everyone else. To put that much in having played 120 mins on Thursday is quite something.
But having come so close that is incredibly gutting. Will take a while to get over that.

Yes, but look at what's to come - Torquay United, Notts County, Stockport County and we've still got Hartlepool, Chesterfield and Wrexham and possibly Woking !!! (OK, forget about Woking).
Another year, another campaign. Heads Up.

We can all be very proud of the team today. There was nothing between the two teams. Maybe we used up our dose of luck on Thursday, if we'd had a bit more today, we wouldn't have lost by the narrowest of margins. A big thank you to Kenny and Tom, the Directors, Ben and Jason and their team, plus of course the players for an outstanding season. Better to lose today than at Wembley? Not sure, it would have been wonderful to have been there next weekend, but that's the way it goes. No need for anyone to be despondent after today's game, just be 100% proud of your club and look forward to next season.

The 12th man (Eastleigh supporters) were superb today and must have given our team a lift. Well done to all who made the long journey to Salford. I'm left wondering what might have happened if we had won the toss for choice of ends... oh well on to next season.

Yes I think that would have helped.
robc am I right in thinking there was a toss for choice of ends and a toss for 1st kick?
Seems we lost both.
363 Spitfires today

I saw the game at the Hangar and have to say in the 27 years I have been supporting the club, given all the circumstances, this was the finest I have ever seen us play. I thought the whole team were outstanding but special praise has to go to our goalkeeper who was superb, and what a defensive performance. As ever RJ was immense, but there were so many outstanding performance I could eulogise about them all.
This season we finished 15 points behind the champions and lost 16 out of 46 regular matches. One things for sure not playing like that we didn't! I always felt we had that level of performance in us, hence my frustration at some of our shambolic defending this term.
I think we are all proud of the club after our brilliant showing in the play offs, and personally I thought we edged it and deserved to go through, not least because of the unfairness of the penalty shoot out - how can it be right for them to be taken at the home end and for them to have first kick. Wrong, wrong wrong.
The key now is how to get this group of players to perform to this level over the whole season. If we can work that one out we could be challenging for the title next season. Applause and respect for everyone who played a part in our performance. Truly we are #better together.

My understanding that at kick off teams winning the toss have either choice of ends or kick off not both and it would make sense if a similar principle was applied to penalty shoot outs.
I think that the game was keenly followed not just by those travelling to Salford or visiting the Hangar, but in the local pubs and clubs.
I thought it was an entertaining and even contest with both teams coming close to scoring a second goal. However I thought one of the best aspects about the Eastleigh performance was the high energy levels during the second period of extra time and it was captivating viewing for a TV audience.

Yes energy levels were remarkable. Pity the game wasn't on a bigger channel. Even as a neutral I know which game I would rather have watched - Huddersfield v Man U or that; and it wouldn't have been boring old Man U. A fantastic advert for the 5th tier of English football.

Very surprised at the quoted attendance of 2963 (363 away) yesterday. That means 2600 home supporters only. They had 3338 Fylde on 22/04 & I can't imagine Fylde taking more than 300, even on a close away game? Or were some of their "fans" staying home to obsess about Huddersfield v ManUre? Any views?

Kenny was talking a couple of months back about there having to be cuts in the playing budget and the dreaded words "part-time" were mentioned.

What a fantastic roller coaster four days. I was lucky enough to get to both Wrexham and Salford. Wembley would have been nice but what a season of high achievement from the day our management team took over. We have been taken from some very modest expectations to an unexpectedly high 7th place and a fantastic go at the play offs. It's very difficult to know what to expect for next season. So much will depend on the extent to which the club can back the manager and assistant manager in retaining and recruiting the right players. They have certainly proved they deserve maximum backing and if there is anyone out there looking for a football club to invest in they would do well to look at Eastleigh.
