tomorrow.... no mention of this game yet. Shows the level of interest at the moment after no game for two weeks and maybe some people feeling there isn't much to play for now?
Anyway, Sutton are still in with a good chance of the playoffs, some familiar faces, so shouldn't be a bad game. They don't have a good record against us here.
I'll go for another 1-1 draw - they've got a good away record, but have drawn a few.
Crowd - I'd guess at 1700-1800 although could be slightly more if people in Eastleigh are starved of football!

this feels like a big test for us. sutton are one of the teams we are challenging with for the playoffs. probably need to win if we are going to make a good challenge

Waiting with bated breath? Plus some of the usual suspects might be focusing on the afternoon's business at St Marys.

I maybe wrong, but I think that the last time that Sutton United obtained any league points on this ground was in Paul Doswell's last season with Eastleigh.

I certainly wasn't expecting that. A great game for the neutral, and over 96 minutes I thought we just about deserved it. Must say I was surprised by Sutton, I expected them to be big, organised and solid at the back, but pretty much every ball stuck in their area caused them trouble. In truth defensively all 5 goals should have been avoided, the Sutton equaliser particularly stupid.
I come away from pretty much every EFC game thinking the same thing, we will be top half because we are dangerous going forward, particularly from set pieces, and when we play with two wingers like we did today, we pose a constant threat. However defensively we are not great which is why I can't see us coming top 7. The team gave 100% today, so I'll never ask for more than that, not from the players; management need to look at tightening it up at the back.

I thought we thoroughly deserved that win. Great character shown to come back and take the lead three times.
Poor defending for both goals, the first a perfect example of Reda thinking he can always play his way out of trouble.
Here’s to happy rest of the weekend!

Cracking game, best I've seen at the Silverlake for a while.
As michaelefc says, all five goals could have been avoided, and I've had my say about Reda on another thread.
But I think we deserved the win, although it was a close-run thing. Sutton played some good stuff, were competitive, it it certainly got feisty towards the end. I think the ref wanted to let things go as much as possible, which was good for most of the game, but it meant he had a hard job in the last few minutes. IMO Eastmond for them was lucky to stay on, I saw three yellow card offenses, but I don't think he even got one.
Individually, Southwood looked fine - confident, calm, decent klcking (not sure what happened for their equaliser?); two full-backs were excellent, we've seen Hare play well often this season, but Greener looked like he had a new lease of life today; Boycey also did well in central defence. Midfield worked very hard, and I think this is where the game was won; for me Jones just shaded MOM, he won so many balls and set up a lot of our attacks - excellent. Forwards worked hard without much reward until Williamson spotted that gap to head home at the end. Beckwith played well in defence for Sutton - a few years after being let go by us, he's still got it.
A good win, and it still keeps us up with a few teams at the playoff end of the table. As I've said before, I don't think we'll get there, but our recent home form has been good, even against the better teams, and most of the remaining home games are winnable, so you never know.

Decent crowd too, especially bearing in mind Southampton were at home. Good atmosphere second half as well. Those who have stopped coming to The Silverlake over the last few months, should come back, for all our failings, we seem a much more united club, certainly at home, and it is no longer like turning up at a library. So if you have not been for a while COME BACK. You might find it better than you remember.

First time we've scored three goals at home this season, an entertaining game, better to win 3-2 than 1-0 in my book. JJ is certainly coming on as a valuable signing after early season injuries, so with Josh Hare & Alex Winter also really producing the goods, it shows how AH knew his stuff last summer. More of the same for the rest of the season and we'll make the playoffs.

Great 3 points. Keeps us in touch at the top end. We seem to be scoring a few goals as well.

Great win and it shows that a strong top-10 league place is a real possibility.
Third weekend in January and we have 46 points already, compared with the 56 that we finished on last season. A final tally of 75+ points shouldn't be beyond the team should they continue to play like today.

Reading the Sutton forum (Amber Planet) , they seemed to be under the impression that there was going to be segregation at the match. There certainly wasn't. Eastleigh and Sutton fans seemed to be standing side by side, particularly in the first half.
One post on their site also said some of the home fans weren't exactly friendly and that the stewarding left a lot to be desired. It wasn't sour grapes, as he had a lot that was positive to say about the ground and match.
Anyone got any observations?
