Fun at football? No such thing, Tony. Just a rollercoaster of emotions. But we left the ground on a high, which is what it should all be about.

Once we took the lead was hopeful we would go on and dominate and win the game but our goal seemed to have the apposite effect and H+W equaliser looked well on the cards, before it eventually came. Fantastic strike to win it though, will look forward to seeing that one again!

Interesting comment by Ben on the H&W equaliser. Law 12 states: A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball when: 1. The ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground or own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms etc.
I thought Luke had his hand on top of the ball after the save, though not totally sure. I know it, fortunately, makes no difference to the 3 points.

Just managed to get to the game by the skin of my teeth with lots of things going on at home. Turned out to be a great afternoon including seeing a lot of fellow supporters still just about in the festive spirit. I had an interesting perspective on this having watched Hawks play Bromley on Saturday. They managed to produce a far better effort against us than they had made v Bromley who beat them 3-0. Interestingly the first Bromley goal was "made" from a classic move down the left involving ex Spitfires Sam Wood and Luke Coulson. Coulson also provided the third from a solo run past a few Havant & Waterlooville bodies. I was a bit concerned after the reverse at Ebbsfleet that we might be missing the midfield nous of Danny Hollands but the lads who turned out did a great job and showed the character to respond to that equaliser. One note of concern was that we seemed to lose concentration and discipline after we scored the first goal. A bit churlish to complain though and I would hope that many of the 2000 plus who were there (real numbers now I think) might come back to watch again.

I don't think its churlish at all. I thought our performance was average at best. Apart from the first 10 minutes and the 20 minutes after half time, we were listless, and for much of the second half we defended far too deep. The substitutions were made far too late, Ben Williamson looked knackered to me after an hour but was left on. Our winning goal came against the run of play and a very ordinary Havant side could easily have won that game.
Sorry to sound so critical but over two games to have come out on top 4-3 on aggregate against the worst team I have seen this season, isn't great. If we are to mount a serious challenge to come top 7, we will have to do much, much better than that. As for Havant, if they play the rest of the season as they did against us, they will be going down. PS The Havant goal should have been disallowed, clearly kicked out of the keepers hands.

Sadly michaelefc you are probably right in the cold light of day. It's just that after 70 years of seeing bizarre and unaccountable footy results over the Christmas and New Year period, and supporting a team which is going to do very very well to finish in the top half, I couldn't help getting a bit euphoric about getting 4 points from two holiday period matches. Nothing to do with the affluence of incohol. I would say I thought the two lads up front looked a lot more up for it than last time I saw them and I do feel that against the odds this management team we have might just turn out OK. I'm also I admit reluctant to take too much issue with non league players who are paid a relative pittance when they turn out to entertain us at this time of the year.

Yes back4more I do see where you are coming from. However "non league players who are paid a relative pittance" are absolutely not playing for Eastleigh. The average wage paid to that Eastleigh team will have been higher than most of the public watching from the stands, and at last one is earning more, almost certainly than any one of the 2,000 in attendance.
Football fans tend to think of their side as being either great or rubbish, fact is this Eastleigh side is average with 2 or 3 seriously good players. On our day we can compete with the best teams in this league, on a bad day we could be beaten by anybody. At the start of the season, admidst all the gloom, I went for 9th; if pushed now I'd go for 11th. No real complaints from me about that. My complaints would be about the cups where we were absolute rubbish.

I suspect neither you John or Michael went to Ebbsfleet as you would have had a lot to complain about if you did. The character of the team to come back after that and the draw at H&W was remarkable and previous teams would have folded but we fought to the end. As with a lot of games we know that the time after a team scores is when they are most vulnerable and the impetus is with the opposing team. Remember that their goal was as a result of a foul on our keeper but ours came from a lot of pressure with 5 successive corners and a class strike. Unfortunately Reda and Josh are unlikely to be with us next season but we have a good nucleus of players (experienced and young) and a reason to be optimistic for next season.

Well said ballboy. I couldn't take the time to go to Ebbsfleet but my perception of our team's performances is totally in line with your observations.
