Today's Echo reports that the individual who abused the Ebbsfleet goalie at last April's home game was found guilty of using threatening behaviour or language to cause "harassment, alarm or distress".
The individual who has already been banned from EFC was fined £650 and ordered to pay compensation of £600. He also had to pay £300 costs and a £65 victim surcharge - over £1,600 !!!
Mind how you go.

Sorry for him? A 59 year old man shouting racial abuse. There are absolutely NO circumstances when that is acceptable. What sort of message does that give our youngsters. Well done to the supporters who complained and to the Courts and Police and EFC for their actions.I hope 'thelake' that you will suitably amend your post or you are endorsing his behaviour as acceptable.

I know nothing of this case and would be happy to be filled in by anyone who knows more about it. It is always difficult to comment on any court case as they have far more information, and context than we generally do.

What sort of example to set his son! I haven't heard any racist comments at the Silverlake or other NL grounds for many years and I hope to never hear any again. If there are '100s dishing out this sort of abuse" etc. then if you hear it, REPORT IT!! By not reporting it, you are condoning such behaviour. And that could say a lot about you as a person.

Mind boggling to think in 2018 this sort of abuse still goes on, and there are people still willing to accept it. I Was at the game where the incident happened, but didn't hear anything untoward. In my experience Eastleigh fans would very rarely report anybody for abuse, so if several did, that gives some idea just how bad it obviously was. Hopefully a one off incident never to occur again.

A similar incident involving the same Ebbsfleet goalkeeper this afternoon saw the 'Fleet players go over the fence into the 'Wood supporters at Borehamwood today. At the end of the game it seems that Ashmore, the same 'keeper involved in the incident at the Silverlake in April, vaulted the barrier and went after someone in the 'Wood crowd. Several members of the Ebbsfleet outfield went in after him !!!!! I can't imagine that the football authorities are going to take this lightly (shades of Eric Cantona).
Reports on line that the same player was the subject of racial abuse when he played recently at Bromley FC. Time other clubs followed EFC's lead in terms of reporting offenders to the police and issuing bans.

Racial abuse should never be condoned and can never be justified under any circumstances, however it sounds like Ashmore "plays" the opposition fans and therefore he should also take a share of the flack.
Maybe he needs to ask himself why he is the one picked out when there are so many players of colour gracing this league and play week after week without incident.
Apparently he was called a "Nonce" by a Wood supporter, derogatory but not racial and he should have taken it on the chin, especially as he is known to stir things up.
Jumping over the fencing deserves a suspension as that was inciting violence and could have let to a very serious situation.
"Fan on Ebbsfleet forum!
Nathan is a superb keeper, but he has to lose the showboating, theatricals and time 'management'. Flopping on the floor after every catch only serves to wind up opposition fans and slow down any tempo we demand. HE likes to wind the fans up, but he also needs to wind his neck in when they react.
If you ask for it, don't complain when you get it!

But you are apparently trying to justify racial abuse. The 'however'suggesting he deserves it in taking his share of flack is perhaps not how your post was meant to read. Stack was the worlds best at time wasting. Yes football banter is expected but racial abuse is not banter. It is a criminal offence and so it should be. Nonce is an expression to describe someone who sexually assaults children. It is a very sad day when a supporter feels that suggesting someone is a paedophile is acceptable. A goalkeeper is always at risk of abuse as he stands in a very limited area and in our league is very close to supporters. Ashmore does not have to justify his race. Maybe as a human being he is sick to death of comments about him that do not relate to his performance on the football field.
Im sure he will get a ban for jumping over the fence. But suggesting he was 'inciting violence' no.He reacted. Not appropriately but he was more at risk of experiencing violence than giving it. Perhaps fans should realise that a football ground is not an excuse to vent their own latent hatreds. I'm all for tougher response to fans behaviour where it exceeds boundaries that would not be acceptable elsewhere.

Read my post again, "can never be justified under any circumstances" None, Never, Zero, HOWEVER!! one wonders if he is not deliberately inciting the fans in order to get some hot headed idiot to do or say something controversial.
There have been at least three incidents involving this same player recently and their own fans seem to think he needs to tone it down.
Name calling (non racial) is an on going part of the game, not that I like it, and "nonce" like any other derogatory name calling is designed to get under the players skin.
If he wants to "wind up the opposition" he is looking for a response, how can it be any different? and he will get one.
While I agree with you that a tougher stance needs be taken on fan behaviour, I also believe there should be no tolerance of players confronting fans, that is the job of the security personal.
For you to say that to jump the fence was not inciting violence is ludicrous, that is exactly what that sort of confrontation will bring, Ashmore deserves a lengthy ban and I am sure he will get one.
"The Sun Newspaper"
"Following the full-time whistle, Fleet goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore jumped in with the home supporters as a mass brawl quickly ensued"
Enough Said!

I think we probably agree on the same things--except believing the sun newspaper. Enough said.
