8th best in the league is very good. The fact that we have been at this level many years now will also be a factor, Salford, for example, are enjoying their first year at this level. That as well as the Manchester United connection will be the reason they are above us. If the Man Utd guys left and they were still in this league in 8 years time, I bet their gates would be nothing like as high. With all the new people moving into our area, if we are reasonably successful and IF we can have success in the cups, I think we could push even higher.

When comparing Eastleigh's attendances with other clubs in the National League I think that one needs to take into account that the prices are similar to a club in the lower division of the Southern League and I am not sure to what extent this is sustainable in the longer term. However even allowing for this it is interesting that people are regarding 1698 as a low attendance, when seven years ago people were doubting whether the club would ever be able to attract crowds of over 1000 on a regular basis and whether they had the resources to survive in the National League for any length of time.
I get the impression that there have been fewer free games than there were in 2017/18 and that season ticket holders are now only included in the attendance figures if they attend the match, and I think that these factors need to be taken into consideration when comparing this season's attendances with last year.
I know a lot of people who have an interest in football and live near grounds, but do not attend games. However I believe that in many cases the reasons for this are outside our control.

Our current average is 1,823 which seems fairly healthy.
Unless I have missed it, I don't believe we have had a free game this season. IMO I do think that is something the club should think about next season, and not in a "we demand freebies" way. more in a growing the club and getting some new fans/positive publicity for a fairly decent price.

Not sure we necessarily need free games. Think the club do give individuals and groups free tickets. Doing a football for a fiver, as Leyton Orient did may work. Also think a small discount for those holding Saints season tickets might be good. I know Havant do that with Portsmouth.

Fair points Steve though, having been to Westleigh Park a few times this season and also looking at their attendances, I don't think they get much in the way of improved attendance from their preferential ticket pricing for Pompey s.t. holders. That's not to say EFC wouldn't benefit from a promotion aimed at Saints season ticket supporters but the club would need to do a far better job of communicating the offer than it seems to be able to do with anything else at the moment.

At the fans forum Kenny did say that the club was looking at promotions involving the new housing residents,Saints and Stoneham season ticket holders.

Football for a fiver sounds good idea to do as an occasion one off. I also quite like the idea of "pay what you like" but given we have had no cash at the turnstiles for a couple of years now, that might be quite tricky to administer.

Well this tweet from the club looks like they're trying to boost the crowd for Monday:
'Everyone attending tomorrows arts & crafts event will receive complimentary tickets for our last home game on Bank Holiday Monday'

I went to the arts and crafts day today with the kids and was well attended. Also the community game this season was Halifax at home where lots of tickets had been allocated for free to schools, football teams etc etc to attract people to the game. I believe 2000 if I am not mistaken.
Freebies and reduce costs of course help but making football affordable for the season will attract numbers of ST holders and also people just turning up on the off chance as Eastleigh is certainly a cheaper option than most

I think the downside of the number of freebies at the Halifax game was the queues were much larger for bar, food, toilets and admission. You obviously have to expect this to some degree, but I think that a thread has been written on this, but I think that if the intention is to significantly boost the attendance for an individual game by offering freebies and the like then it is also a good idea to have more people on hand to deal with this increase.

That’s a valid point and most certainly a learning curve for all. However, it’s great the club are making strides to expand into the community and get the next generation in

You are, as often Malcy, totally right. The logic is clear and simple. But......
