is it the first time we have played a competitive fixture at a premier league ground?

I think we may have played at St Marys in both the final of the Hampshire Senior Cup and the Southampton Senior Cup.

Bournemouth 3-0 up approaching HT.
Not particularly surprising as they have several players in the side who played in the PL last season. Hopefully we can keep it respectable.

This game showed just what a waste of time this competition is. We fielded a team which contained OAPs and academy players-Bmouth fielded Tyrone Mings, Marc Pugh and Junior Stanilas. For those who want goals and only see that as entertainment then this game was for you. But if you want to watch a competitive match where teams are both of a similar standard then this game was definitely one to miss. Shame on Bournemouth for not entering into the spirit of this cup- they have a huge pool of players of high standard who are not in first team but could easily play at championship standard. Other teams in this Cup have small squads and either leave out the best players so as not to get them injured or put a team out like we did.

We fielded a team which contained OAPs and academy players' 'Shame on Bournemouth for not entering into the spirit of this cup' So what about us? Two of the three Bournemouth players you mention were coming back from injury - seems like a reasonable game to play them in. Last season was similar: we played a mixed team against them (I remember they had Brad Smith playing for them, who cost £6M) - I can't answer for yesterday, but last season the team we put out against AFCB played utter cr*p and entertainment was non-existent. The main difference was that we played at home. If we switch that kind of game to play away (being drawn at home originally), with a mixed team, I would expect us to get stuffed. Is that taking the HSC seriously? Suggesting that AFCB deliberately put out a weakened team which doesn't meet their needs so as to give fans entertainment or to avoid a big score seems to be expecting a lot.

Then what is the point of the 'competition'. It isnt. Fact is their pool of players vastly outnumbers other teams in this cup. Whereas smaller teams either have to risk their first teams which will impact on their season or as we did put out a weakened team they don't need to. If you play for a premier club at any level you are going to be of high quality. I think you have it round the wrong way-- it is not AFCB needing to put out a weakened team--it is all the other teams competing who have to do that. A pointless competition

I agree that we have to question the point of the competition from our point of view, in that case.
If we aren't out to win it, with a trip to St. Mary's in the final, why do we enter it? Are we forced to? If it's our choice, then why don't we put out our strongest team? Yes, I know you'll say that the NL is more important.
Current holders are Havant and Waterlooville. Not Saints or AFCB. They beat Blackfield and Langley in the final. Havant also won it in 2016. Basingstoke beat AFCB on penalties in the 2017 final.
Maybe we were unlucky this time that AFCB had two first teamers returning from injury who needed a game - they normally stick to U21 players, from what I have seen - but we certainly weren't unlucky last season. We pretty much threw it. Like recent FA Trophy games.

Are we forced to enter it? AFAIK yes, we are. It certainly used to be the case that it was a condition of our membership of the Hants FA. There used to be a rule that allow the County FL clubs to pay (was it £750 ?) to avoid playing.
When we were in the lower leagues it was a well respected competition but as a National League club it really is a waste of our time.

As evidenced by Aldershot losing 0-5 at Team Solent on Monday.
With a smaller squad we can use it for giving time to bench players, promising youth team players, etc. which is exactly what we did, and lost 8-1 to AFCB, who did much the same.

Please tell me why BOURNEMOUTH AFC are permitted to participate in the HAMPSHIRE SENIOR CUP when they are a DORSET CLUB ?? The inclusion of AFCB in the Hampshire Cup is due to the fact that when Boscombe FC was formed the town was in Hampshire (indeed, it remained there until 1974). They continued to be full members of the HFA and therefore are eligible to play in the HSC.
I think the same applies to Bournemouth FC (Poppies).
