www.eastleighfc.com/statement-gary-mcsheffrey/Eastleigh Football Club can today confirm that midfielder Gary McSheffrey has parted company with the club by mutual consent. Here is Gary’s statement regarding his departure. “I’d like to thank everybody involved with Eastleigh FC for my short spell there, after a discussion with the manager we agreed to bring my contract to an early end as it was proving difficult logistically with a young family. I wish them all the best and hope they can achieve their ambitions of being a football league club in the future.” The club would like to thank Gary for his contributions to Eastleigh FC and wish him well in his future endeavours.

Just get the feeling there is more to it than that. Are you trying to tell me players don't look at a map when they accept the wages we prepared to pay before signing? Thought he played reasonably well. I was even more surprised by the Heslop loan signing seeing as his parent club are in Yorkshire.

Must have been on a decent wage at Doncaster being in Div 1. It appears that cuts are being introduced to lower the wage bill.

Must have changed since I saw it, I thought it read:
“I’d like to thank everybody at the Gravy Train that is Eastleigh FC for kindly topping up my pension fund, geography was never my strongest subject at school. I wish them all the best and hope they can achieve their ambitions of being a final club for the numerous has beens that are looking to top up their savings.”

Ha, spot on. Another failed old ex pro looking for easy money. Just stop signing these knackered carthorses for gods sake.

We obviously shed a lot of players on big contracts last season and our financial accounts for 2016 show a worsening position.
RH has intimated that the club has big problems and that he didn't blame the previous managers, so that leads me to think we have money worries ?

It's not rocket science to think with over 50 players and 4 managers last season that we no doubt spent a huge amount of money. Add in the building work and its money most clubs couldn't dream of.
Having said that, it doesn't seem to me we have money problems as a club, just that a decision has been made that the playing budget has to be straightened out before we can look to move forward again. It's common sense really but unfortunately most fans see RH as an easy target and would rather make out they are hard done by for their £120 a season.

We wouldn’t offer him a deal past Jan so it was agreed he could leave early to find a longer term contract I believe This now makes complete sense & it's best for the player and the club he leaves. 2 goals & a few assists,I guess. Thanks for your contribution,Gary.

I’m sure mcsheffreys bank account is extremely healthy, to such an extent your working Eastleigh man can only ever dream of.

When RH told me in August that he inherited a mess he couldn't for obvious reasons state precisely what that meant, but it has to be pretty obvious the mess is regards to player contracts and wages in the main. Somehow this was allowed to run out of control, and it wasn't the fault of the previous managers, it was Matt Lewton, and SD has admitted his mistakes in this as well, after all he had to bankroll it. Overall I don't think the club is in financial crisis but it certainly makes sense, and needs to be done to get back into calmer waters shall we say. Once RH has done that then perhaps he can really start to build a new team to take the club forward, SD will back him in the market and from what I hear there are high hopes that next season is pretty exciting.

And, because of what SOE says above, it's unlikely GM was on big money with us, having been a RH signing. Some of the comments on here have been somewhat disrespectful towards him.

"I'm beginning to worry that we have major financial issues."
SD's most recent interview on BBC Solent did confirm a change in direction re expenditure on players. The statement was that the "buy our way to the Football League days are over" as far as I can remember the broadcast.
I suspect that many of us gave a sigh of relief on hearing that. I don't read that decision as meaning we have a "major" issue at this precise moment.
