Who's moaning? Just a debate. I forgot to mention above about the issue of stewarding. When Saints are at home they seem to have first dibs on stewards.

Saints pay twice as much as we do from what I've heard. Can't blame the stewards in such circumstances. There is always a problem on Boxing Day when, even if Saints aren't playing, the races at Fontwell Park attract the stewards and leave us short.

The Chester game clashing with Saints was our fault. We had the pitch problem on Sept 30th. We then changed it from the rearranged date on Oct 31st to Nov 4th. Why? Because we lost at home to Hereford in the FA Cup (OK, and because Chester lost too). A strange set of coincidences. I think the main reason to avoid clashing with Saints is not the traffic, but because some Eastleigh fans go to St.Mary's instead! ''Stockport.........on a friday night,'' as the song used to go.

I always thought that the closure of Stoneham Lane which I believe is necessary for safety reasons could have some disadvantages as well.
I can understand that people have different degrees of mobility, but I would have thought that anyone who lived near a train station that had a good service to Eastleigh could travel from there to Eastleigh and then get the number 2 bus to the Concorde club which would involve comparatively little walking.

Cricketers is 10 mins away. Anyone who can’t do that and is under 70 should be ashamed of themselves.

Cricketers is 10 mins away. Anyone who can’t do that and is under 70 should be ashamed of themselves. Completely out of order comment, willk. There are plenty of people under 40 e.g. who have health issues & would struggle to walk that distance, also plenty over 60 who do a 6 mile walk with no trouble. I'm in the latter bracket but choose to park at the ground. I've never (so far) experienced problems like Taylov. Your across the board criticism of people who are not as fit as you shows you up has having the diplomacy of the likes of Trump & Johnson.

My girlfriend Chris, one of the worlds most wonderful people is a lady in her 50's, who through not fault of her own after an operation went wrong, is disabled. On a very good day, she can (slowly ) walk a quarter of a mile, on a bad day she can barely make 50 yards. She has absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of.

what about people with young children too.
willk you are nothing but a troll, you just throw in the odd "reasonable" comment to try and hide it.

I , of course meant able bodied people. No offence meant to your lady, who I’m sure is totally lovely.

Cricketers is 10 mins away. Anyone who can’t do that and is under 70 should be ashamed of themselves. Well I’m 38 but can barely walk any distance, let alone one which takes 10 minutes. I must be ashamed of myself from now on......

That sounds to me like the best alternative to driving from where I live. I am just over a mile from Swanwick station so that's a healthy enough walk. I might look up the no 2 bus timetable. Is it First or Stagecoach does anyone know?

Or you could have another healthy walk from Eastleigh station instead of taking the bus :-) That takes what - about 20-25 mins?
Or it's about 10-15 mins walk from Southampton Parkway across Lakeside Park. From Swanwick you need to change once whatever.

I've now found that I would need to get the train into Southampton from Swanwick then out again to Eastleigh which is a relatively long journey. A quick bit of research shows the best and quickest route for me is to get the bus into Fareham and take the train from Fareham to Southampton Airport Parkway, changing at Eastleigh. I believe it's a quick walk from Parkway to the ground - ah thanks Paul - just seen your 10 - 15 minute estimate for that.

I'm 30 mins walk from Swanwick.
In theory, if you're near the station, it's quite doable on a Saturday. You can leave Swanwick either 1300 or 1309 and get to SAA 1337 or 1345 respectively. Or 1342 arr 1426 if you're feeling brave. Depart 1711, 1725, 1742. Return price £5.60. Some of these are changing at St.Denys rather than Southampton Central. I gather the timetables may be changing soon under the new franchise (on our line, for the better). If you're feeling lazy then parking at Swanwick station is £2 on Saturdays, or off-peak.
If I cease to become a season-ticket holder and only go to the Silverlake occasionally, then I'd consider it. There's also the Cricketers or another place I know. But at the moment it's more convenient and probably cheaper for me to have a car park pass.
