Williamson and McCallum could yet be the answer when both are fit so we need to wait and see. This is a very strange season after 10 games in...only 6 points between 2nd and 20th!!!!! Everybody expects Tranmere, Hartlepool and Barrow to be there or thereabouts.....they are all below us in the table, so if they have a chance, so do we. We've had a massive injury list to contend with as well, like I said, Williamson and McCallum could be all the difference we need at the moment.

The game for me last night hinged on several factors throughout the game where two teams had to deal with some very difficult conditions. I took several positives and sadly several negatives from this game.
P - Some very good spells of on the deck football where we played the ball from the back to front quickly. N - When we did this it rarely ended in anything as once we got the ball into good positions there was either no support from other players or a (rabbit in headlights pass) P - Good performance in defence and the goal conceded was a bloody good goal (typed with gritted teeth N - It could have been the weather but I never heard much talking between players to many times we were shut down but I did not hear another player telling anybody (man on) TALKING/ COMMUNICATION between players is vital on a pitch it builds understanding and team ethic. P - We have a very good team of professional players who now in spells are getting used to playing but need again to talk. N - Front line are to similar time after time they did not move off each other and they never ran back line ragged. P - I think that last year set the whole Eastleigh project on the pitch back by at least 2yrs but we are slowly getting back to building the whole Eastleigh Team Support and back room back on coarse.
Personnal opinion- I only say this not as slagging off but maybe something's need to be said and taken as developmental not just a fan being a ******. I have always supported Beano but although working very hard up front he now is just not getting any luck but this luck has not been there for last couple of seasons. He is a professional player and a good servant to the club but he may now be more usefull as Impact like Macca rather than starting. I appreciate injuries but we have to look at the team and tough decisions need to be made. Johnson good player but that's no good to the team or club finances when he may only play third of season. Harsh but true. I also have to look at why we have so many players injured 🤕 Why does that keep happening. Tactics we all know how Richard Hill likes his teams to play but I always would put players in places they know how the play in. If players are played out of position can we have explanation why. For me the player I like watching is Zeb given he has not played for a while and for me he is the speed and work rate to get amongst opposition defenders. Sadly refs don't like him he will have to live with that but for me he does shake defenders up a bit just needs to score. The pitch held up well we just now need to play the way we know we can. I hope to see a re - action on Saturday. Last nights game was good to watch as a neutral where one bit of skill or luck would turn the game sadly Stones got it.

The injuries will be down to a combination of three things; 1. Bad luck 2. Poor training regimes, fitness levels or injury prevention methods 3. Players not wanting to play
Getting so many injuries so early in the season is worrying. I agree with you on Reda - great player, but too much time on the sidelines

Best post you've ever done Paul (bacon roll) a well thought out statement, sadly it is part of the merry go round each year at EFC. I believe in Williamson and McCallum to get us moving....I'd play Macca up front than Beano any day from the start but age catches up and he is probably a bit tired from August efforts. Looking at things this league could be a rarity in that it will be wide open for 10/12 teams come February...for the title I mean, not just the PO's spots.

Have to say that I agree with much of what is being said on this thread. From my point of view I was disappointed in the way the playing style seemed to change in the second half. First half the midfield players were looking for the ball and off the ball movement was excellent. We were moving the ball around quickly and slicing through the Maidstone midfield. Unfortunately we did not offer enough of a threat up front to be able to capitalise on the good football we were playing. Somehow in the second half we were all over the place and any player with the ball had to hold onto it too long just trying to find another blue shirt to pass to. We do have one or two players who are always looking to receive the ball and who have that invaluable ability to make space for themselves but overall when I looked at the shape of the team for most of the second half I couldn't see where passes were on, even from up in the stand. I know Maidstone worked their socks off and have strength and pace in spades in key areas but we have better quality payers and should have been able to win that match. Even with the increased "dwell" times and lack of movement as the second half wore on, we were still making some chances but one weakness which I think did cost us the game in the end was the repeated loss of possession on the left flank. Too many times when the ball found its way to that left touchline Maidstone seemed to be winning the ball back. That was leaving advanced midfielders stranded and our defence exposed and vulnerable to the break. Even before they hit the post it was clear their goal was coming and once they scored they could have had more if they had really wanted to go for it.

strength and pace in spades in key areas
And that's the key. I know I go on about this like a broken record, but WE LACK PACE in most key areas of the pitch. Until this is addressed we will be no better than a mid table side. In the National league to do well you have to have strength and pace. We have strength, but no pace.

i think the worrying thing last night was that we weren't really making chances.
not as if strikers were missing sitters, just nothing much being created
be good to see Williamson & Mccallum back but we probably need to strengthen if we are going to make a serious go for the top 7. do rate Sam Matthews though

Odd thing to say. Who else is to blame? Surely the buck always stops with the manager/:chairman, even if a player or backroom staff is thought to be performing poorly, who is responsible for playing them or employing them?
It's the manager and or chairman! Enough excuses, time to get on with the job

RH,being diplomatic. We need to learn from last year and credit to Stewart for taking responsibility but you cannot blame him given the investment. Sadly I believe this will be more of a 're-building year. But you never know. Hoping to see some pro-active football rather than re-active this saturday.

Think he is getting on with the job and he probably has a point. We are no doubt still paying Moore, Allen, N'Gala and goodness knows who else, so the cloth is cut thinner then at any time since SD arrived. Add to that the ridiculous injury list that includes highly paid players we haven't seen for months and you realise there has to be decisions made that will not allow the club to progress this year and maybe next. If we can get into the middle of the pack and hold our own I think it will be a real achievement. If SD were to chuck greater amounts at the situation now and we still missed out on promotion, there has to be a possibility the whole lot could go pop.

Excellent post, westend. We're all frustrated with how the team is playing atm, but forget the costs involved with the "casualties" of last season & the long term injuries. Plus we're still struggling with injuries this season. We need to remember those sorts of facts from time to time.

Any thoughts as to the suggestion that it is the pitch causing some of these injuries?
