Thought it was a great team performance. Yeates was great running at them, 2 assists for Matthews when he came on, Macca deserved that goal and he loved it đ We just gave a good Tranmere team a beating happy days đđđ

Have seen the three home games, will be at Orient next week. What I have seen in all 3 games is a big, strong team, who are fit and get better as the game goes on. First half again, we were off the pace and were lucky to be level, second half I think we wore Tranmere down, we began to really press high, defended from the front, and made Tranmere look very ragged. Williamson is class, his goal was beautifully taken, a thumping header from Mac, fumbled in by the keeper but Macca's goal. After that we could have had 3 or 4 as their heads dropped, and in the last 10 minutes they looked a very tired team.
My biggest worry for this team is a lack of real quality, so often, especially early on, we were relying on a hopefully long balls, there wasn't enough passing and movement, and our crossing just wasn't of sufficient quality. IMO we have a decent ream, but not one to worry the leading few. On the evidence of this performance, over 90 minutes Tranmere have as least as many problem as we do.

I wasn't at Woking so don't know how we were set up there but today we had only one player out of the keeper and back four who played the previous home match v D&R. So it would always be uphill and so it seemed in the first half. A bit Keystone Cops at times. We also had to jettison the excellent Chris Zebroski at half time because that ref was totally on his case and even if he wasn't going to be sent off he wasn't going to be allowed to compete for the ball. Enter Macca though and again, as we see so many times, his class and experience takes us up a notch. The real game changer though was bringing on Sam Matthews who goes around the pitch begging to get the ball at his feet. I'm pretty sure Sam made that turn and run to release the ball to Ben Williamson to set him up for the run that led to him scoring the first goal. And of course to cap that Sam put that beautiful free kick onto Macca's head for the second. What is also a good omen from what I saw today was seeing the players who are currently out injured, who were sat in the main stand seats in front of me, jumping around like proper supporters both times we scored. Nice team building Mr Hill.

In Richard we trust. Super second half display against a good Tranmere side but they were outplayed in the second 45 by Eastleigh who looked if they wanted the win that little bit more. Have to disagree with HantsLondoner, thought Ayo had a cracker.

Well, didn't see that coming. Thought the first half was pretty dull from both sides & the game had all the hallmarks of a nil all draw. But two terrific goals gave us an unexpected win. Williamson is looking to be a surprise but valuable capture & let's hope he can continue with this rich vein of form he's showing. So Greener isn't automatic left back. Thought Sam Wood had an excellent game there.
So 5 games in, we're on 8pts. I'd say that's a pretty good return from what was being forecast before the season started. The only game we've lost is to what was considered to be the weakest team of the first 8 games & we've beaten Tranmere at home for the first time. And look at the league table. Sutton, Bromley, Aldershot, Borehamwood. Who'd have forecast that? Hartlepool in the bottom 4. OK, still early days, but interesting times.

I was impressed by the general balance of the team. I thought Yeates consistently plays well and puts in some good runs. Just needs to release ball maybe a bit sooner. Zebrowski won very little in the air and the half time substitution made the difference together with better hold up play by the big man. Mathews always impresses. I really think we need to start with Macca and williamson and try and get a head start -and as Macca tires replace him with the pace of Zebrowski on tired defenders.

I really have to disagree with you there re Zebs. He was winning the ball time and time again in the air and held the ball up well as well. The problem was that no one was keeping up with his movement so there was never anyone near him to pick up a lay off. That will come in time but we need to keep starting him. If there is a downside it might be that his ability to get his head on everything tempts payers to play long up to him when we need to be building the attack more progressively.

Interesting when you look at the team dynamics now compared to 6 or so months ago - yea I agree, there's not obvious stand out star qualities but there's definitely a team quality beginning to show, in the past season or so, you could argue we looked like 11 strangers at times, whereas we now we look a lot more confident in each other, a little long ballish at times but definitely understanding & moving off the ball is a lot better

Should have mentioned Sam Matthews; his coming on was a game changer, what a good little player he is. Love Macca, smashing character as well, but come on folks he is strictly a temporary solution, as the winter comes in, we need younger fitter guys to carry the flame, and for me it is Williamson and A.N.other. Who Mr. Other is, is going to be key to our season, I like Zebrowski, but he is very impetuous and he will pick up a lot of cards. We are one decent frontman from being a very dangerous team, and one major injury from being very lightweight up front. I am sure RH is very aware of this.

He's certainly still got the necessary fitness and gets goals in the back of the net. Would rather see him up front than Zebroski personally. On another note, including PSF's I've now managed to miss five Eastleigh goals âšī¸

By the way, I liked the pre-match music today - a far cry from the 'three-song Martin' selection last season!

playing devils advocate I guess the thing is he is 37 so is he likely to play 40 games in the season? certainly a useful player to have around and loves the club.
reckon constable has been unlikely not to get more game time given he had an encouraging pre season

(Stearn was brilliant too but has so much competition). Certainly don't anticipate him (Macca) playing every match but we have a striker who is a great finisher (which is where we seem to be struggling).

Hi, Tranmere fan here, To be honest you have never had a better time to play us, we are playing poorly and are being easily bullied and losing our discipline If we are level at 70 mins I suspect you may win it as we need the points and may push it too hard.
Also lots of rumours our best player Andy Cook will be leaving before the transfer deadline as the budget is used up and we have an unbalanced squad
If you target McEverley in the air we will have trouble On route now Lets hope for a good game Not sure we will bring too many if I am honest, there seems to be a feeling of resignation amongst the fans for which we need a convincing win somewhere to kick start our season Well I was almost right 60 mins and we throw a forward on out wide and we lose shape altogether and start making mistakes, we have some real trouble at the club at the moment including a performance from Andy Cook which suggests he did not want to get injured before a potential move No arguments at all about the result, the best team on the day won and won fairly comfortably in the end Best of luck with the rest of the season
