Somewhere around 150k for the new pitch I believe. I'm sure the seeding would have just been a small fraction of that

Think we were cutting it a bit fine, but I still reckon AFC Wimbledon bottled it

Got to say the pitch appeared to perform admirably during the legends game. No it's not uniformly green yet, but it played true and the bounce was good. There was not a single piece of turf lifting and I think I saw one divot being prodded at half time. Whoever came down from AFCW was either looking for an excuse not to play, or knows nothing about pitches. Looking forward to some decent performances on it.

Wayne Shaw, Francis Bengali and Matt Le Tissier all tweeted that the pitch was good and perfectly playable.

The section nearest the car park corner in front of the restaurant which was the last to be laid was the only slightly iffy area that I could see yesterday. The far side apparently was the first to go down and that was like a billiard table. Maybe it did need a tad more than 24 hours to settle in.
What was obvious from the motorway end stand was that passes to feet ran smoothly - none of the bobbling up and down 2 or 3 times on the way that we've been so used to.
I was particularly impressed by the "linesman trap" in the motorway end corner - who has the button that lifts the lid after 5 dodgy offside decisions?

Well that's great by the weekend after another cut or two it should be tip top, hopefully as has been said the ball will run a lot smoother with no bobbles, let's hope it lasts through the bad months, I think we will all see some better football all round. Well done to everyone for their efforts.

Here's how they do it at a Level 8 (same as Totton, Win City, Didcot) club. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0luqBhPqanc&feature=youtu.beThis past close season has been different for us in terms of drainage needing to be done, but has our pitch received the same or better treatment in past closed seasons? Makes you wonder. Anyway, I understand we may be on the way to employing a specialist to look after it in the future, so that's a good move. Will wait for news from the club on that in due course.

I was sat by the window having dinner yesterday & there's two huge bumps in the goalmouth, like they've hastily buried a couple of stray dogs under the turf..

I've just been down there, and the corner by the shop is still unseeded. Lots of sand down and only a few tufts of grass. I appreciate some of this area may be actually off the 'playing surface' but still very close, especially for corners.

Well, that was nearly rather embarrassing. No rain to speak of since the Wednesday deluge but the SW corner was clearly less than perfect. You could see how poor the surface was by how easily & far the forks went into that section compared with the rest of the pitch. So it looks like the drainage there was done by a load of cowboys, rather than a small team who knew what they were doing and who who do it properly. This is very worrying for the rest of the winter. We have a 2 week window between Tranmere & Fylde, I think. It needs to be sorted quickly otherwise that area is going to be unplayable once winter rains come.
On a slightly different matter, the roof of the Mackoy stand really needs to be perspex to allow more light onto the pitch at that end in the winter. May I suggest that cladding & roofing for the new stand is done as far as possible with the roofing material from the Mackoy, & that the Mackoy is the covered in perspex.
