Disappointing game for all the tourists but standard fayre for all the regulars ;-) Obviously we lost what was a tight game in the first ten minutes when our flat back four was breached three times. None of the four seemed capable of turning at all. The shot for the goal seemed to go through Clarke, powerful though it was - Clarke had a good game otherwise, I thought.
Obileye was the only player who looked like scoring - neither the two big strikers in the first half nor Wilson in the second half produced much at all. I couldn't believe that we had eleven men back for every Macc corner in the first half, nobody up there at all.
As before, Stearn looked quite useful, Garratt's cross for the Obileye header that hit the post was superb, and McLeod again did some good things as sub - it must be hard for all of them coming into a side playing so poorly at the moment.
It will probably be a relief for the team to have an away game next - not an easy one, though.

Came away from the game, feeling quite optimistic for the future with the knowledge that Ryan Clarke was back in goal and Ayo Obileye`s hit a post. I think the squad and MA have turned a corner with this performance.

I think we need a point or at least a goal to turn a corner!
Ryan Clarke the one plus from the night. Not easy to come into an underperforming team as a keeper, he did all right.
As for the game we could easily have lost the game in the first 20 minutes, lucky to concede just one.
away to Dover (our bogey team) and home to an inform Aldershot next, its not getting any easier is it?
Tough times

Great seeing Clarkey back in goal but I certainly don't think he was to blame. Odoffin made some awful mistakes and their goal and attempts at goal were nearly all unchallenged by our shambles of a defence

I don't see many if these players at Eastleigh next season, if they are then I'll be worried.

I don't see many if these players at Eastleigh next season, if they are then I'll be worried. Are you suggesting they're not good enough for the National South? The way we're playing at the moment, this team would struggle in the level below, IMHO.

Who cares about next season? Its all about getting the 7 points I think will keep us up. Not sure where they are going to come from, an away point Saturday would be superb. Nothing wrong with the effort or comittement of the players. But I note three things:
1) The team has no confidence 2) The team has no discernible shape 3) These players don't look very good.
We have this team and this manager until the end of the season probably, so lets just encourage them to get the 7 points and then breath a huge sigh of relief..maybe.

Well as bad as it was last night, it was better than Saturday, which in turn was better than last Tuesday, so an upward trend Plus points for me, obviously Clarke back between the sticks, McLeod looked good again, and despite being beaten for the goal, I thought Cole was OK (not as good as Greener, but he's gone so we have to move on). On the negative side, whoever is up front does not look like scoring, and Odoffin looks worse every game - MA spends the whole game yelling at him! What I don't get is that surely these players don't play like this in training, otherwise they wouldn't make the starting eleven. Therefore, what happens the moment they walk onto the Silverlake pitch??

Of course they make the starting eleven, we've only got a squad of 19.

MA has made signings since joining. Togwell, Muggleton, Stack all of which just aren't good enough to get us promoted. Are these the sort of signings he will be making in the summer?

For me Cole and Odoffin aren't (yet) full backs (but do have great wingback potential) - they seem more comfortable / capable going forwards but seem to be lacking a bit when it comes to positioning / defending / tracking back. Also seem to be lacking anyone bossing the game on the pitch and being vocal with the players (Reda/Cresswell/Taylor all missing) - seemed very narrow at times and all got sucked across to the middle of the pitch rather than anyone staying out wide in space. Couldn't understand why Beano wasn't on the half way line instead of in his own 6 yard box for corners - as when we played our 'hoofball' clearance there was no one in the centre circle to try and latch onto it, thus inviting another immediate attack. Shape as Michael has referred to also seemed to be a struggle at periods in the game and getting ourselves back up the pitch when Clarke had the ball. I'm sure things will 'click' soon between the players as they start to read each others game play, speed, positioning, skills and abilities :-)

To be fair, Stack was brought in as GK coach/No 2 or 3. But it's also the quality of the loanees that I'm concerned about. Only Tyler Garratt looks just about good enough, although I haven't seen enough of Sam Matthews to make a judgement.
The priority is to scrape enough points together to stay up, but squad building by MA looks questionable so far & doesn't give confidence for next season.

By my counting that takes the win ratio for the manager's time at Eastleigh down to 9%. There are quite a few very good players in the squad and I honestly think all the players are doing the best they can under this regime. We just continue to fail against very average sides.
