It just seems to give some reward for finishing higher, that has always been a complaint here that a team that finishes 2nd has no advantage over a team sneaking into 5th 15 points behind them.

Neither Maidstone nor Gateshead are technically the same club that left the Football League - they went bust, and the current club is a new creation. The same could be said about Halifax last season, and there may be others. Newport and Wimbledon are examples of 'reformed' clubs that have made it all the way back into the FL. In my opinion it would be good to have two automatic promotions and then a two-leg play off between third top and third bottom. The other entirely new club is Accrington, of course. The old Accrington Stanley folded in the mid 1960s after struggling on for a few seasons in the Lancs Combination. The current club has no direct links to the earlier set-up. Like Gateshead and Bradford Park Avenue, the original ground had gone.

That's what they do in the Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga and 3.Liga in Germany to decide one of the promotion / relegation places. I like this method it's better than what we use in this country.

The Scottish system is FAR too complicated. The beauty of football is its simplicity, as soon as it get complicated I switch off.

It should be 3 up 3 down. It's clear the bottom half of league 2 is conference standard. Let's not resort to what other countries do, just copy what we do throughout the rest of the football pyramid. If you're crap you go down, if you're good you go up.

3 up will (and should) happen.
I think its a question of when not if.
I reckon 5 years away.

Looks like changes are around the corner sooner than that if the football league proposed changes get the go ahead.

I have been arguing for a 5 division national league set up with 20 teams in each division for at least 20 years. It's a brilliant idea...now watch the wave of criticism which will belch forth from every corner. Great ideas, initially at least, are ALWAYS heavily criticised.

I'm in favour of the FL proposals. There is too much football being played, although this will only reduce the number of games clubs play by 4 or 6 per season. FA Cup should be the only competition with replays, certainly FAT should be result on the first game, play midweek & be regionalised till quarters/semis. Certainly gives EFC an easier route into FL, however we want to be there before these proposals become reality.

I am sat here watching the Bundesliga Pro/Rel Play off and was thinking this would be a good option for National League/Div 2 - then I read your post. Obviously great minds think alike!

sunnysaturdays said-: Not necessarily, could be swamped with premier league B teams.
Nothing about that in the proposals. The BBC article clearly states how the make up of the 5 divisions would be achieved.

I was wondering if they had the brainwave to ensure no club is relegated from the League for the next 4 seasons, allow 8 teams to be promoted and thereby get the 100 clubs required? Thereafter it should be 3 relegated and 3 up from The National League. Simples...

Not that simple. How many games will league 2 teams be playing in two or three years time as part of the transition. 50 in 17/18, 54 in 18/19 ? Does your calc only add 6 new as they plan to start 19/20. 92 to 94 end of 16/17. 94 to 96 end of 17/18, 96 to 98 at end of 18/19 so two short for 19/20 with huge playing calendar in league 2 for two years. Perhaps I have misunderstood the simple element.
