Well season ended with a bit of a wimper. Braintree won easily so it was academic anyway.
A long summer ahead and lots of changes needed for next season.

Two wins would have done it though with Dover and Grimsby losing. Very very disappointing indeed. We did indeed finish with a whimper and 1 point in 9 - not good enough.
Play offs are/were there for the taking and anyone could win them. We finished where we deserved and can't complain. To win anything you need to turn up every game and be at it from the start and we cannot say we did that. Over the two seasons we have more than competed and have established ourselves as one of the stronger teams with a fanbase to match which is progress.
So lots to be proud of and if it takes Luton and Oxford 4 or 5 years to get out the league we cannot expect to just walk it. Grimsby, Wrexham and Lincoln along with Tranmere are all finding it tough to get out and with one up it is really tough. However finishing 7th is not good enough and we will need to do better next season. We must look forward and the hard work begins tonight - both on and off the pitch - as we look to try and really improve on this season.
Thank you all for your support - we have had some great memories this season. I hope to see as many of you as possible Monday and rest assured we will leave no stone unturned in our attempts to do better next season.

How did we actually play today as didnt make it due to another forgotten arrangement ?
I don't really care about the result (to a degree obviously), but would like to know if we put up a better display than Tranmere, bearing in mind they were the two biggest league games of our season with the play offs on the line.

Turley was a big loss for us today. Played some nice passes on a fairly good pitch but just nothing up top. Goal went down as Tubbs, but it was a shot from Payne that hit Tubbs and wrong footed the keeper. Lafayette started and looked bright, Midson came on in the second half and did ok. Tubbs was useless yet again. Poor game and probably summed up our season. Looking forward to a break before cheering on the team again next season.

Thought today's line up with Yemi & Fanimo in midfield was a statement that we would attack, but it could be argued that their inclusion didn't give us the stability at the back. 2 goals in 3 mins really did it for us. To come out in the second half with 3 up front & 3 at the back was another statement of intent. We just didn't look like scoring in the second half until the shot by Payne ricocheted off Tubbs into the net. We didn't deserve any more than that.
Clearly lack of goals in 2016 have been the main problem & my thought is that mistakes were made in letting RL go to Aldershot and in bringing MT in as a replacement. Ross showed qualities today that we have missed this year, heading ability, holding the ball up, laying it off etc.I foresee a lot of changes on the field this summer.
Thanks for your comments, Stewart. Despite falling short of the play-offs, it's still been a very enjoyable season. Looking forward to next season already.

Bit of a strange game really. Tubbs had an early effort disallowed (no idea if it was correctly disallowed) and shortly after we were 2 down.
From there on we were never really in the game until late on when we could have sneaked a draw but with results elsewhere that all felt very much by the by

Todd's post match interview interesting. Glad to hear there will be lots of change over the summer. If Todd stays, it has to be with his squad, not someone else's. As long as we don't stay as we are. We need a change of playing philosophy also in my opinion, so hope that comes with the changes. Looking forward to next season already. Bring on the pre season friendlies.

I do not think it has been the last three games that have cost us the playoff place. I think it was losing the 4 away games in February and conceding 10 goals in the process that proved costly. I also think that if Dover and Grimsby needed points to secure a playoff place their games today may have been different.
Although the football may not have been as entertaining I can see some value in the strengthening of the defensive performances following these defeats, and prior to today we had conceded 3 goals in 10 games, and in games in which we keep clean sheets we are in my opinion more likely to win than draw. I do agree with the comments about the relative contributions of Ross Lafayette and Matt Tubbs.
Today we had to go for broke and with key players missing did not look as solid as in recent games.

I think that's exactly right Malcy and puts the game into context. The only thing I would say is that I don't think Ross Lafayette would have given us anything had we kept him for the season. I don't think he ran up a tally at Aldershot and looked weak yesterday. I also don't think Matt Tubbs really could have worked harder and he is clearly very talented but for a number of reasons it just didn't work as hoped.
On a lighter note I wonder if Chris Todd ended up wondering whether he should have kept to his tracksuit rather than switching back to shirt and tie for the last game. These things are important.
I did have a quick word with James Constable after the game and he's recovering well from his appendectomy. It made me think how much kinder it would have been if we'd all been given a 45 minute general anaesthetic at 5.30pm.
Second half was not a lot better and it was a good thing that Woking weren't able to do a better job of hitting us on the break in that half.
Another downer was the catering. Worst away food till yesterday was Aldershot. That was until I decided to risk the Woking jumbo sausage and chips. I still have the stale fat and meat extract after taste.
Shame also about the carry on at the end. It looked from a distance like their "fans" might have started it but coming out of the ground there were clearly Eastleigh "supporters" getting involved which doesn't help our club's reputation at all. I thought the Woking police and stewards dealt with the situation well and should be commended for their proportionate response. I'd have banged the lot up for the night.
Many thanks to Stewart for the positive info re intentions for next season. That's exactly the message all supporters want to hear and I hope we can beat the season ticket target.

We seem to have attracted some very stupid people into our "fanbase" of late. I know that it happened before (Salisbury for example), but if the police were involved, then every Police Force in the country will get an email Monday Morning and we will get the "Barnet treatment" everywhere next season. Trouble is, mud sticks.

Cheers for the post SD, exactly what is/was needed.
So so season plenty of ups and downs, not sure Hilly would have been able to do much better with that group at his disposal, some times things just don't click.
If we had drawn both games with Braintree instead of 2-0 losses we would be equal points but still 1GD to the poorer, you can analyse things to that degree but probably best to look forward.
A big worry is the amount of bookings and sendings off we had (worst in the league) and there is a player who has amazing talent but seems to always get 10 plus bookings a season for us each year, a tweak of change needed that would not only help himself but the team (cynically I think players get suspensions to have a break sometimes)
I'll be forever greatful to the team for their performance away to Crewe which was almost perfect in my eyes, and certainly the tears of joy and happiness them 90 minutes gave me counter balances any less good performance I witnessed this season.

IMO Ross Lafayette was our best player closely followed by Will Evans. Jai and Joe had an off day and Tubbs was terrible(assume his loan period is up and he will be gone soon)
Look forward to a number of changes and big players coming in and next season. We need to build a team around a number of younger players and i feel that Tony Lee needs to be given a chance to show us whether he has the passion at this level.

Jack midson looked far better when he came on . Very underused this season i think .
