We were singing easy easy as their 6th went in. Due to the fact we were favourite to get relegated I see the Waterboys have a must win game tomorrow to possibly save themselves

Just before my time, but many names of note. Surprising (or not with Bairdy's defection to us?) how many of the H&W team later came to play for us. From my limited knowledge 4 are still playing at a reasonably high standard, Jamie Collins, Sutton, Ian Oliver, Totton, Andy Forbes & Adam Roberts, Winchester. Maybe Luke Byles still playing in Aussie? I'm sure others will flag up what many of the others are doing now, e.g. Wayne Shaw & David Hughes working for Sutton? Seen Martin Thomes at the Silverlake on occasions. Mark Blake, goalkeeper? Any relation?
Good subject to raise, Tony. How about doing a weekly series hereon over the summer with comments about the game in question?

We came 8th that season, our first in the conference south.
Not bad at all.
Wayne shaw was sent off & mark bake (a defender) went on goal.
He played quite a few games for saints and was a pro some years.

I think a few players in the away team played for Eastleigh at some point.

I think a few players in the away team played for Eastleigh at some point. Yes, I said that above. Namely: Luke Byles, Jamie Collins, Tom Jordan, Neil Sharp, Tony Taggart, Brett Poate, and Carl Wilson-Dennis that I'm sure of. Possibly Richard Pacquette? Please correct me if there have been others.

Richard Pacquette had a very brief Eastleigh career.

I may be wrong, but I think that Mark Brown and Shea Saunders may also have played for us, although in case of the latter it may have only been pre-season. I perhaps should have been mindful that other names had already been mentioned.

Richard Pacquette had a very brief Eastleigh career. About 20 minutes IIRC Good Luck to HWFC this afternoon - the most important game in the club's history, Liverpool included. Playing at home against Weston Super Mare to stay in the National League South.

Yes, echo that about good luck to H&W today, but their destiny is not in their hands. If both Margate at Bath City, and St Albans home to Dartford win, Havant will be relegated to the Southern Premier. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on their game up at Woking today.

Some great trolling Nobadspitfire and Taylov, personally hope they get battered, get relegated, go bankrupt merge with Baffins Milton Rovers and have to start again.

Are they are a rival though? It seems unlikely we will be playing them in the foreseeable future. Wasn't it always a bit of a "false" rivalry in the first place mainly stoked up by the Baird business? Its always been Salisbury for me. Though that league fixture isn't exactly on the cards either!
Ever since H&W reached Anfield and got a big cashpot for doing so its been pretty obvious they have had big problems at the club from the top down. Kept the wrong manager in charge for a good couple of years which was obvious to virtually everyone except the couple of directors responsible. Again it looks like they have the wrong manager.
In one of the weakest conference Souths ever (64 pts to make the playoffs is a record low I think) they have conspired to get relegated when they should definitely be around the top 5.
As for rivals now/the future well I guess you may well have seen them yesterday if you went. Aldershot is the other possible one I guess.

H&W may have other problems especially over the future of their present ground. Although the club has a 99 year lease on Westleigh Park, the council announced last year that is was keen to use the site for further housing. There seemed then to be a possibility of them moving to a new ground at South Downs College but this seems now to be up in air as a result of cuts having to be made by the Council.
